My (middle) name is Randall and I was born and raised in Tuppers Creek, WV. I now live in Northern Virginia, where I bravely contend with traffic, humidity, bureaucracy, and dangerous levels of hot air coming from across the Potomac River. I am a defense contractor by day and a Navy reservist by weekend. My political hang-ups include energy policy, economics, foreign policy, social issues, media bias, taxes, historical revisionism, multiculturalism, civil rights, and the Reds. But other than those minor quirks, I'm a great guy to know.

Did they change their name during the Cold War to the "Cincinatti Redlegs" to avoid trouble with being confused with godless commies?

They become the Reds because, as the first professional team, they were Red Stockings which became their nickname, to differentiate themselves from the local teams they played.
I don't know if they were ever know as the Red Legs or not though.

This is true. And it will be another. They do have some young arms but look at the ballpark those arms have to pitch in.

As a Brewers fan, I feel your pain. Have you been to the "new" ballpark? I really like it. From Wikipedia, the fount of all knowledge:
"Twice in the 1950s (the McCarthy era), the Reds, fearing that their traditional club nickname would associate them with the threat of Communism, officially changed the name of the team to the Cincinnati Redlegs. From 1956 to 1960, the club's logo was altered to remove the term "REDS" from the inside of the "wishbone C" symbol. The "REDS" reappeared on the 1961 uniforms, but the point of the C was removed, leaving a smooth, non-wishbone curve. The traditional home-uniform logo was restored in 1967."
