Braxton police look for vandals who stole weapons, ammo

BURNSVILLE, W.Va. -- Police are searching for suspects behind two acts of vandalism near the Burnsville Dam that left a bathroom trashed and police equipment stolen out of a cruiser.

The suspects broke into a locked compound below the dam on Tuesday or Wednesday and broke out two windows in a Braxton County Sheriff's cruiser. The suspects stole an AR-15 rifle with scope, ammunition, gun accessories, three hand-held police radios, a Taser gun and a camera, according to the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

On Thursday or Friday, vandals trashed the restroom in the Left Fork Picnic Area above Burnsville Dam, causing more than $500 in damage.

They broke mirrors, tore up soap dispensers, tore a partition off, damaged a lock, and caused extensive cleanup costs, according to the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

Police want anyone with information about the robbery to call 866-413-7970. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible to receive a cash reward.

Wasn't me, but I heard what sounded like a 4-wheeler zipping down the street in the dark without any lights on early the other morning.

Which is unusual even for Burnsville.
