It can only rains more than 1 inch .....

If it is not in the heart of coal country in southern West Virginia.

Cause iffen it ever rains more than an inch .... they just might hafta blame flooding on something other than coal mining. Razz Razz Razz

The worst flooding in Gilmer County in nearly 25 years has stranded many residents and left them with no place to buy groceries or gas.

Boats ferried fresh workers Thursday to the Sunbridge of Glenville nursing home and the Federal Correctional Institution after the Little Kanawha River crested 9 feet above flood stage, said county emergency services Director Ed Messenger.

About 15 families were expected to spend a second night in a shelter set up at the Sand Fork Baptist Church, about 7 miles east of Glenville, he said.

The flooding, which officials called the county's worst since 1985, inundated at least 15 homes and 15 businesses, including the county's only two grocery stores and its only four gas stations.

Highways into and out of Glenville from the east and west were impassable and much of the downtown was underwater, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said four waves of storms dumped as much as 4 inches of rain on Glenville over 48 hours.

YUP, it sure did rain hard here in Burnsville, .... like 2 cows peeing on the same flat rock.

The rainwater came off the hills so fast the storm sewers couldn't catch it or hold it .... so it gushed down through the yards, the sidewalks and the side streets, .... flooding about 300-400 yards of Main Street, ..... then it flowed into and on down the LK to add to Glenville's misery.

And when they say "much of downtown Glenville was under water" .... that means the water was almost up to the Stop Light there at the intersection of Rt. 33 & 5.

But Tough Patootie, ..... there ain't no coal mining within 50 miles. geek geek

State of emergency expands to more W.Va. counties

June 7, 2008

Gov. Joe Manchin on Friday expanded the current state of emergency to include six more counties - Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Jefferson, Ritchie and Wirt - and the counties that touch them, after heavy rains earlier this week flooded homes and businesses, sent mudslides over the roads and knocked out power to more than 85,000 houses and businesses.

The original counties declared on Wednesday - Barbour, Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Taylor and their bordering counties - are still under a state of emergency.

With a possible record heat wave just beginning, more than 6,000 customers statewide still lacked electricity Friday, as temperatures soared past 90 in the areas hardest hit by the flood. Both Appalachian Power and Allegheny Energy expected to have everybody's power back on by noon today. ………………………………….

YUP, iffen the flooding and the damage to homes, businesses and other property ….. is all confined to north of Kanawha County ……. then no Law suites are anticipate or expected to be filed by any parties suffering damage from said flooding.

And also, no nasty, berating Editorials, …….. or badmouthing, bashing, fault accusing Columns, …….. or accusing, cursing, criticizing Letters to the Editors ……. are anticipate or expected to be printed/published in the Newspapers concerning said damage from said flooding.

Any flooding north of Kanawha County ....... is an "Act of God" ........ and ya can't be suing God ........ cause he/she don't have any money ...... and therefore the Lawyers knows damn well they won't get paid.
