Re: A Boettner beatdown
Peculiar that the author does not quote Boettner at any point- but just says, "crickets chirping".
The author of this article not only says nothing- s/he is desperately trying to say nothing.
Bray Carey is a jackass. His biggest public relations asset is that he owns a few media outlets. Beyond that, he is just a stuffed shirt.
Interesting.

Re: A Boettner beatdown
I read a couple of ole Boettner's aka One Citizen's pieces on taxes in the Gazette. He and people just like him are what are destroying the democratic party and he's a joke. I would love to see the show.
My question for him or any other boob who thinks tax cuts don't work would be...
"Why is it, every time a recession is coming on, the first thing the government does is issue economic stimulus checks?"

You really think that boy was One Citizen? Everything I've seen from him is mind-numbingly wonkish whereas OC's stuff was wild and nasty. I'd have a hard time believing it.

He's 'taming' himself down for the gazette and these local shows Jimmy. The Gazette forum is where he could be his true socialist self.

Well, no, he's a socialist. I accept that. But he was so nasty. I don't remember ever encountering such an uncouth confrontational jerk in my life.

Re: A Boettner beatdown
I think his public persona is derived from previous butt whippings and fear have and that has driven him to be what he displays in public. I believe he is his tried and true self online under the alias 'one citizen' Jimmy. I'm actually suprised that we haven't seen him on here yet.

I have known Ted Boettner for years. I knew his father before him. But it wasn't until after the last Gazette forums shut down that someone here told us that "One Citizen" was a lawyer named Ted Boettner. I am still not certain of it. The Ted Boettner I know, the Ted Boettner Bray Cary interviewed, is not a lawyer and is not, in person anyway, the snarly asshole we saw in the cyber personality of "One Citizen".
I am not saying that it could not be the same person. I suspect that it probably is. But he is not changing himself from what he's ever been in person- an opinionated, outspoken, only half-informed (if that) zealot for his vision of social justice- not unilke most of us here. But his forum demeanor as a obnoxious, indefensible asshole is totally different from his "in person", mild mannered personna.

You are full of sh!t, Sam. How have I defended him?
I am not defending him. If he's the same guy we know as "One Citizen", he is an indefensible obnoxious asshole.
But I am telling you that the article Stephanie cites does not offer even one word of anything Ted Boettner is alledged to have said as evidence of anything. It is just the authors' hollow, unsubstianted attempt to smear Ted Boettner and the organization Boettner represents- which the author will not even identify by its name- but without actually showing anything other than the author's opinion. That the author doesn't even attempt to show any substance other than his / her own perceptions tells us more about the author than about Boettner.
And the worst thing that the author, who does not even identify himself / herself, says about Boettner is that he "looks young for… oh, say, 20", and that he repeats himself. If we here had not already beem told by someone or other that Ted Boettner was the former Gazette's forum's incorrigible asshole who called himself "One Citizen", this article about the Bray Cary show would mean nothing to us. It is empty of anything other than one unidentifiied author's anonymous, hollow, unsubstantiated opinion.

Bio Pick of the Week: Ted Boettner
By Ted Boettner, WVEC Lobbyist
ted@wvcag.org
Hello! My name is Ted Boettner, and I was born in West Virginia and grew up on Charleston's west side. After graduating from Capitol High School in 1997, I attended college and studied journalism and political science.
In 2002, I moved back to Charleston and worked as a law clerk investigating flood damage in southern West Virginia. During this time, I also became active in WV Patriots for Peace and the National Lawyers Guild. In the fall of 2003, I moved to New Hampshire to begin post-graduate work in international relations and political science.
While in New Hampshire, I became an intern with the Howard Dean campaign and worked as a research assistant at the university. After completing my graduate course work, I moved back to Charleston and helped manage the Erik Wells' campaign for U.S. Congress.
When the dust settled after November 2nd, I spent the next three months working on my masters thesis on the neo-conservatives and post-Cold War foreign policy. Upon completion, I began volunteering at the WV Environmental Council and this led me accepting a position at WV Citizen Action Group and now at E-Council.
In my brief time in politics, I've learned two important things: first, that we should not uncritically accept what we are told and think for ourselves; and second, that what happens at the bottom echelons of society is as critical as what happens at the upper reaches of society. When I'm not working, I enjoy riding my road bike, hiking, reading (especially American foreign policy), and spending time with family and friends. Also, on occasion, I enjoy brewing beer and traveling around the Mountain State.
Ted is also a candidate for House of Delegates in the 30th District, Kanawha County. Stay tuned for "Bio Pick of the Week" on another WVEC Lobby Team member in the next Legislative Update ..... editor.

Re: A Boettner beatdown
I'm pretty confident that OC and TB are one in the same, but I will concede there is a slight chance I could be wrong.
OC was a pompous arrogant a$$ who didn't have a clue as to what he was talking about.
I've read TB's views on taxes and capitalism in various Gazette op-ed’s. I can't tell if he's pompous or arrogant from his fantasy opinions.
I'm not the least bit suprised that Ziggy knows Teddy.

Could auto insurance save the planet?
Jan 7th, 2007 by Administrator
by Ted Boettner
One of the world’s largest concerns is reducing greenhouse gases that cause global warming. And one of the biggest concerns for Americans, for both domestic and foreign reasons, is reducing our dependency on oil. One way West Virginia could move forward on these two important goals would be to implement a simple reform in auto insurance called Pay-As-You-Drive (PAYD).
Currently, auto insurance is only loosely linked to the amount of driving a person does. PAYD is a market-based approach that gives consumers the option to pay for insurance by the mile, instead of purchasing it at a fixed premium. At present, if an individual drives the average of 13,500 miles per year, instead of 30,000, then her insurance rate is reduced only slightly, usually by 15% or less according experts. This means that she is subsidizing the person who is driving almost three times as much, all things being equal. The key difference with PAYD is that insurance premiums would be linked to miles driven, instead of the current scheme of an all-you-can-eat buffet where low mileage drivers subsidize those who drive more. PAYD would make drivers more aware of the true costs of vehicle operation and give them an economic incentive to drive less.
Aaron Edlin, a professor of economics and law at the University of California, Berkeley, estimates that PAYD insurance could reduce driving and gasoline consumption by 10-15%. Automobiles account for more ............
