Looking up to be a boomer year for WV employers.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's fund that provides benefits to jobless residents is paying 114 percent more than it did last year as the unemployment rate continues to jump, a WorkForce West Virginia official said Thursday.

The state's unemployment compensation fund paid $181 million in benefits this year through July 3, said Michael Moore, the agency's director of unemployment. That figure was $84.5 million for the same period last year, he said.

"We're looking at paying $345 million this year in benefits" if current conditions remain, Moore said.

To help replenish that fund, employers in West Virginia will start paying a 50 percent higher taxable wage base rate starting this month.

First an increase in the Minimum Wage and now a 50% higher Unemployment Tax. And both of them on top of a big increase in utility cost$.

Just add those costs onto their goods or services …… and price themselves out of the market.
