PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- Barbour County's prosecutor has asked a court to remove County Clerk Debra Talbott from office because a medical condition has kept her off the job for two years.

Prosecuting Attorney Lynn Phillips filed a petition Wednesday in circuit court seeking Talbott's removal. The County Commission approved the filing.

Talbott has said she suffers from several illnesses, including spinal stenosis, which pinches the nerves along the spine, and degenerative nerve disease.

Her lawyer, Philip Isner, has said she's seeking Social Security disability benefits.

Talbott has continued to receive her $48,180 annually salary while on leave.
