Re: Superbowl
I think ole George's boy got it right.
"Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive (BS) ] that is," he said in an interview with The New York Times' Play magazine. "That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans.
"Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order."

Re: Superbowl
I want to hasten to add that just because I find the Bosox vile and loathsome does not mean that I in any way prefer the Yankees.
My team is the Milwaukee Brewers. Their stadium has a roof that closes (so it's never rained or snowed out--I saw a game there once during a snowstorm) but also opens so that they have actual grass. You can get a nosebleed seat for 6 bucks and they are almost always available. The bratwursts are locally produced and yummy. And as far as I can tell, it will never, EVER be trendy to go there. It's a place to watch a baseball game, not to be seen at. It's what baseball was meant to be. There's even a nice play area for the kids when they get beliggerant.
Of course, the Brewers are experts at getting into first place and then screwing up royally and missing the playoffs altogether.

Re: Superbowl
IMO, he is 100% responsible for the steroid fiasco in baseball. He KNEW it was going on and turned a blind eye because he wanted the ratings the HR's generated.
Check that. He NEEDED the ratings. Baseball was on life support after the 94 season. Cal gave it some life in September, 95 when he passed Gehrig for most games played but it didn't completely come back until the summer of 98 when roided up McGwire and Sosa demolished a record that stood for 40+ years.
Selig knew what was going on then, he knew what was going on with Bonds and he did nothing. The blame for Roger and Barry, Mark and Sammy and every other user goes right back to Bud Selig. He knew it was going on, he could have put a stop to it and he didn't. And then to make matters worse, he tries to make out like none of it was his fault.

Re: Superbowl
I should like to see two baseball leagues--one in which "anything goes" and another that is completely clean. I think it would be a lot of fun and a great social science experiment.

Re: Superbowl
I don't necessary have a problem with players doing whatever they can to get an advantage. It's their bodies they're destroying and their lives their ending early. See Lyle Alzado.
My problem is you have players that are too gutless to admit it and owners that want to be publically outraged while privately estatic. They're all a bunch of hypocrites.
If McGwire had said, "Yeah, I did it. Pitchers are doing it and I just want to remain competative..." and Clemens said "Yeah, I did it. Hitters are doing it and I just want to remain competative..." I'd at least respect them for being honest about it. Same thing with Selig. At least be honest and say that if players are going to do it, then MLB as a business is going to capitalize on it.
They lying is what gets me though and I think the owners are the worst. For them to say they didn't know is just plain wrong.

Re: Superbowl
Aaron,
I think that's fair. We really seem to be in an era of "do what you can get away with," inside and outside of the sports world.
