Cure For Honey Bee Colony Collapse?

Post by SamCogar on Wed Apr 15, 2009 6:33 am

ScienceDaily (Apr. 14, 2009) — For the first time, scientists have isolated the parasite Nosema ceranae (Microsporidia) from professional apiaries suffering from honey bee colony depopulation syndrome. They then went on to treat the infection with complete success.

Thanks for posting this, Sam. I missed this when you originally posted it and haven't seen it reported anywhere. Most news agencies are too busy talking about what Michelle is wearing and how cute Bo is to let us know about anything this trivial.

They treated the Nosema infection. They do not yet know if it will stop the syndrome.

Beekeepers have been controlling Nosema in their hives for years and it exists in most hives to a lesser or greater extent.

It is hardly surprising that troubled hives have the pathogen - so do many healthy ones.
