Charleston's dumbest bank robber?
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police have arrested an Alabama man in the robbery of a credit union this morning in Charleston's East End. The man left an envelope at the crime scene that led police to him.
Shawn Elmore, whose age and hometown were not available, was arrested about 3 p.m. at Orchard Manor, said Sgt. Aaron James of the Charleston Police Department.
The robbery took place a little after 10 a.m. at the State Credit Union, just east of the Capitol building in the 2200 block of Washington Street.
Elmore entered the credit union, handed the teller a blank piece of paper and told her it was a robbery, James said. He was calm at first, but started speaking louder and became more agitated, James said.
The piece of paper handed to the teller was an envelope with a bar code on it. Police traced the bar code to Orchard Manor, where Elmore had been staying. They arrested him as he returned there on Tuesday afternoon.
