WASHINGTON (AP) -- A new genetic analysis of people from around the world adds further confirmation to the African origin of humans. The study of genetic details from 938 individuals from 51 populations provides evidence of how people are related and different, researchers led by Richard M. Myers of Stanford University report in Friday's issue of the journal Science.

The team looked at variations in 650,000 sections of each of the DNA samples, providing a view of the similarities and differences between people in greater detail than had been available previously.

Scientists have long believed that modern humans first developed in Africa and spread from there to populate the rest of the world, a theory strongly supported by the new analysis, the researchers said.

In addition, they noted that residents of the Middle East can trace their ancestry to both Africa and Europe, which they said is logical since the region formed a bridge for movement back and forth between the areas.

Also, they noted, they found a close a relationship between the Yakut population of Siberia and native Americans, who are believed to have migrated from Siberia via a land bridge at a time of lower sea levels.

The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health.

Remember Henry Drummond's brilliant question about Caine's wife. "Now where did she come from? Think somebody pulled another creation over in the next county?"

DNA Study Supports African Origin of Man Empty Re: DNA Study Supports African Origin of Man

Stephanie, such DNA studies are based on the premise that “all mutations in the DNA are additive”.

Thus, when “The team looked at variations in 650,000 sections of each of the DNA samples” they could “see” said mutations, be they the addition of a single DNA molecule (A, C, G, or T) or the addition of several new DNA molecules.

Example of single “mutation”: original = AAAGTCTGAC, ….. mutated = AAAGTCCTGAC

Example of multiple “mutation”: original = AAAGTCTGAC, ….. mutated = AAAGTCAGTCTGAC

Thus, to locate “the source” of the original DNA, one must “look backwards” through the DNA of those 938 individuals from 51 different populations to see when those mutations occurred. And when this info is “plotted on a map” …….. all the “trails” lead back to an African origin.

And “yes”, Steph, that does pretty much confirm the “Out of Africa Theory”, …… but only one (1) part of it, …….. which is, ….. the potential direction our early ancestors travelled to get where they ended up. But the data produced from said study does not provide a “single clue” of the actual route our ancestors actually took to get there, ….. which is the 2nd part of the “Out of Africa Theory” ….. and the part I was in continual debate about with KeithSeptic.

Stephanie, the majority of people, including Septic, have been taught, …. and unquestionally believe, ……… that our early human ancestors “started out on their journey” by jumping down out of the trees and heading out on “a route” across the hot Savannahs of Africa to live and evolve.

Steph, I do not agree with or support their “belief” ….. primarily because the evolutionary changes/modifications that occurred, ….. resulting in the Homo erectus species and subsequent Homo sapiens (modern humans), ….. can not be adequately explained or justified via such an environment.

But now Stephanie, if we assume that our early human ancestors “started out on their journey” by jumping down out of the trees and heading out on “a route” toward the nearest river or lake in Africa to live and evolve, ………. then all of our evolutionary changes/modifications that occurred, ….. resultimg in the Homo erectus species and subsequent Homo sapiens (modern humans), …. can be adequately explained and justified via such an environment.

Steph, …… nothing makes sense in the evolution of Homo sapiens (modern humans) other than an aquatic environment.

Steph, read this from your above cited article.

Steph, the majority believe that story, right. Now read this from today’s paper.

LIMA - A circular plaza built 5,500 years ago has been discovered in Peru, and archaeologists involved in the dig said on Monday that carbon dating shows it is one of the oldest structures ever found in the Americas.

A team of Peruvian and German archeologists uncovered the plaza, which was hidden beneath another piece of architecture at the ruins known as Sechin Bajo, in Casma, 229 miles (366 kilometers) north of Lima, the capital.

Prior to the discovery at Sechin Bajo, archaeologists considered the ancient Peruvian citadel of Caral to be one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere, at about 5,000 years.

Scientists say Caral, located a few hours drive from Sechin Bajo, was one of six places in the world — along with Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India and Mesoamerica — where humans started living in cities 5,000 years ago.

"The dating done by the German archeologists puts it at about 5,500 years, but other parts could be older depending on what else is found," Perez said.

Steph, if early humans migrated out of Siberia, across a land bridge to Alaska, ……. why in hell would they keep on traveling south as far as Peru before they settled down to grow crops, irrigate the land and build their first city?

Agriculture was taking root in South America almost as early as the first farmers were breaking ground in the Middle East, research indicates. Evidence that squash was being grown nearly 10,000 years ago, in what is now Peru, is reported today in the journal Science.

A team led by anthropologist Tom Dillehay of Vanderbilt University also uncovered remains of peanuts from 7,600 years ago and cotton dated to 5,500 years ago in the floors and hearths of sites in the Nanchoc valley of northern Peru.

"We believe the development of agriculture by the Nanchoc people served as a catalyst for cultural and social changes that eventually led to intensified agriculture, institutionalised political power and new towns in the Andean highlands and along the coast 4,000 to 5,500 years ago," Mr Dillehay said.

The earliest evidence of growing wheat, barley and legumes dates to about 10,000 to 12,000 years ago in the Middle East.

"The plants we found in northern Peru did not typically grow in the wild in that area," Mr Dillehay said. "We believe they must have therefore been domesticated elsewhere first and then brought to this valley by traders or mobile horticulturists."

Stephanie, the more historical data they find in Peru, ........ the more they have to CYA and change and modify their Bering Sea Land Bridge Theory

cheers
