Losing the war on common sense Empty Losing the war on common sense

Low-flow toilets are slowly killing San Francisco

City fathers should not mess around when it comes to fecal matter. The stuff is disease-ridden and a major health hazard.

They should get rid of it.

Meanwhile, in West Virginia, a plan to dump a $160 million tax on smokers, chewers and snuff takers kissed the wall, as they say in stock-car racing.

I have a problem with state government profiteering from tobacco.

The end of the tax proposal leaves the state without a way to finance that $8 billion in unfunded liabilities for retiree health benefits for state workers.

My suggestion is to simply end health benefits for retirees now. That would zero out the $8 billion unfunded liability in one fell swoop.

It would also end having so many state employees retire at 55. They would have to wait until they reached their Medicare years.
