I'm suprised you even know who "Snookie" is Jim.

I was watching CNN yesterday and they kept repeating the claim that a shutdown would cause the military to potentially not get paid. So the news either ignores the shutdown and instead focuses on stuff like Snookie or they tell outright lies. It's why I pay little attention to the news.
