Is a Circuit Judge really worth $16,333.33 a month?
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The state Supreme Court has sided with Kanawha Circuit Judge Charles King in a divorce dispute with his wife.
The high court rejected arguments made by Judy King, the judge's ex-wife, that she was entitled to more of Charles King's pension than she had begun receiving following the divorce.
Charles and Judy King divorced in 2003 after 32 years of marriage. Judy King is the longtime director of human resources for the city of Charleston.
She contended she began receiving a monthly check for $961 from the Consolidated Public Retirement Board when the judge retired in 2008. She believed she should be receiving $2,547 a month.
He began receiving his pension, won re-election and retook the bench in January 2009.
Since then he has drawn a full judge's salary of $116,000 a year in addition to the pension, estimated then at more than $80,000 a year.

King is one of two or three judges who, when upon running unopposed in an election, retired to collect their pension, won their election and continue to set on the bench.
It's one of the most egregious actions in the state, more so then retired teachers who are capped at working 145 out of a 190 day contract.
My beef is more with the legislature for allowing this to happen, especially considering that it has been going on for at least 3 years and should have been addressed when it began.
And citizens wonder why West Virginia ranks where we do.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Huntington administrative law judge was placed on leave Thursday while the Social Security Administration investigates the high number of social security applications he has granted so far this fiscal year.
In 2010, Daugherty denied just four of the 1,284 cases he decided. Administrative law judges typically only award benefits about 60 percent of the time.
