Devil's Food Cake Empty Devil's Food Cake

To The Editor:

When a gay couple wanted to order a wedding cake from Sweet Cakes bakery in Portland, Oregon, the owners, devout Christians, refused. It is not that gays were refused service, the bakery just refused to acknowledge gay weddings by baking a cake.

The lesbian couple sued and the Oregon state Bureau of Labor and Industries, after conducting an investigation, ruled that the bakery had to serve the gay couple. (Yet, same-sex marriage is not even legal in Oregon.) The couple has since closed their bakery rather than violate their religious beliefs. Lev 18:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

Gay people were clearly welcome to buy baked goods there, the owner just refused to acknowledge gay marriage. I believe they have that right. Should a Muslim baker be forced to make a chocolate/bacon wedding cake, cupcake or cookie? Should any baker--Jew, Muslim or Gentile--be forced to make a Jerry Sandusky fund raiser cake for the NAM/BLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association)?

There are dozens of bakeries in the Portland area that will gladly make a lesbian wedding cake. Hopefully, they would all refuse to make a Sandusky or bestiality cake. Who knows?

What this was all about is using the machinery of the state to intimidate Christians. We can believe what we want as long as it does not offend someone. What homosexuals do offends Bible believing Christians. What Christians do sometimes offends homosexuals. Can't we agree to disagree? We are all supposed to be equal on this farm--but, some are evidently more equal than others; and, they use their clout to coerce others to accept their sin.
