Higher CO2 levels may be good for plants: German scientists
Jul 8 08:40 AM US/Eastern

The dangerous rise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere may be troubling scientists and world leaders but it could prove to be a boon for plants, German researchers said Tuesday.

Increasing exposure to carbon dioxide appears to boost crop yields, Hans-Joachim Weigel of the Johann Heinrich von Thuenen Institute for rural areas, forestry and fisheries in the central city of Brunswick told AFP.

"Output increased by about 10 percent for barley, beets and wheat" when the plants were subjected to higher levels of carbon dioxide, Weigel said.

Maybe rising CO2 levels is just God's way of providing more food 6 billion+ people. If Dems and other eco-wackos get their way, then more people will starve... So, Democrats wants to starve people.

Well Terri I think we all learned that in Grade School.

But not the "greenhouse effect".

Do you know what that is?

Yes. It is the excuse that Democrats are using now to raise taxes since the weather changed and sunk the Global Cooling hoax of 35 years ago.

Sherm, I'm thinking about starting a new company that insulates homes with CO2.

Would you be interested in getting "CO2 insulation" for your home?

I figure that if CO2 can keep the Earth warm, ......... it sure as hell ought to keep peoples houses warm ....... and save them $100's in winter heating costs.

I wonder if the benefits from the increased CO2 will be offset by the drop in direct sunlight due to increased cloud cover...

Depending on whose defination you subscribe, to the Greenhouse effect either comes from CO2 absorbing infrared and near infrared partsofthe spectrum and not allowing this heat to escape or CO2 in the upper atmosphere allowing heat in, but not allowing it to excape.

The truth is Sherman on average there is 336 Part per Million CO2 in the atmosphere. That means that Carbon dioxidemakes up 0.03% of all the gases in the atmopshere. Here is a few more facts for you. The earth has been cooling for the past 10 years. The hottest years were not in the 90's as some would have you believe, it was int he 30's and at the turn of the century. Additionally, the polar oce cap isn't melting away as the alarmist would have you believe. In fact. the Ice cover at the North pole is about where it was in 1980. Additionally, the ice cover at the south pole has increased by nearly 35%.

Frankly, Sherman, Global Warming is a hoax and a con. Global warming can be summed up in one fact. Socialism has been discredited and has been replaced by the religion of global warming as a way to control those even corporations. Even the founder of Greenpeace says that.

Do you think that SUVs caused the "dust bowl?" Smile

My gag has a point--if the dust bowl were to have happened in 2007 instead, EVERYONE WOULD HAVE BEEN CERTAIN that it was due to global warming and that it was man's fault.

I agree with you, Cato, global warming is a hoax, and I might even add, a religion complete with high priests, tests of orthodoxy, and an Inquisition.

Did ya read what Willy wrote there Shermmy?

Now that is what you Global Warmingists believe ........ and there are tens of thousands of you out there.

And justa bout every one of you will be wanting your house insulated with that CO2.

So, it is definitely a "gold mine" Shem ...... so you had better reserve a "dealership" before I publically announce my "CO2 INSULATION IS US" company and all the franchises are sold.

Well guys I don't see why global warming is such a political issue.

Seems like a scientific issue to me.

So on that question I will rest my faith in the consensus judgment of those with better credentials than we have.

Many of whom are no doubt republicans.

Matter of fact I believe republicans at least at one time were better educated than Democrats.

But that may no longer be true what with the wacko fringe moving in and exercising such clout in the Party.

The wacko fringe, Sherm? If "we" had any control at all there would not be a McCain as our candidate.

Well Mike who would you have as the nominee if the wacko's of whom you speak had their way?

I suspect it might be Huckabee and I have to say I like him too.

He was my pick for them from the get go even before he broke out of the pack.
