Tire Guage: Media covering for Obama - Again!
The Tire-Gauge Solution: No Joke (Media covering for Obama - Again!)

If Senator Obama ever stops suddenly, there'll be bloody noses in every newsroom in this country.
Time Magazine ^ | Aug. 04, 2008 | Michael Grunwald
How out of touch is Barack Obama? He's so out of touch that he suggested that if all Americans inflated their tires properly and took their cars for regular tune-ups, they could save as much oil as new offshore drilling would produce. Gleeful Republicans have made this their daily talking point; Rush Limbaugh is having a field day; and the Republican National Committee is sending tire gauges labeled "Barack Obama's Energy Plan" to Washington reporters.
But who's really out of touch? The Bush Administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now. Meanwhile, efficiency experts say that keeping tires inflated can improve gas mileage 3%, and regular maintenance can add another 4%. Many drivers already follow their advice, but if everyone did, we could immediately reduce demand several percentage points. In other words: Obama is right.
In fact, Obama's actual energy plan is much more than a tire gauge. But that's not what's so pernicious about the tire-gauge attacks. Politics ain't beanbag, and Obama has defended himself against worse smears. The real problem with the attacks on his tire-gauge plan is that efforts to improve conservation and efficiency happen to be the best approaches to dealing with the energy crisis — the cheapest, cleanest, quickest and easiest ways to ease our addiction to oil, reduce our pain at the pump and address global warming. It's a pretty simple concept: if our use of fossil fuels is increasing our reliance on Middle Eastern dictators while destroying the planet, maybe we ought to use less.

How stupid and out of touch can they be? I can see where they're coming from and I don't disagree entirely. But the voters are demanding relief at the pumps and the only relief these guys are offering is to dissuade them from using the pumps at all. Are they tone deaf? Because I cannot believe they'd miss a chance to pander.

Jimmy,
I see the problem as being with the message the Republicans are putting forth. More drilling alone isn't the answer and the RNC and Rush Limbaugh and even dolts like Coulter & Hannity know this.
So yes, keep your tires properly inflated and change your oil and spark plugs etc but conservation alone is not going to end our dependence on foreign oil and renewable energy and new technology isn't going to eliminate our need for petroleum products.
Sane and rational people like you and me are being drowned out by party loyalists on the one side and Democrats are so busy pandering to environmental extremists this is the result. I mean, I assume there are sane and rational Democrats.
There are, aren't there?

There are sane people on both sides of the spectrum who could be advocating both increased supply and increased efficiency. Such people need to become the electorate's equivalent of the "gang of 14" and pledge to support whichever candidate puts principle over partisanship, or at least pledge to withhold their support from both cretins unless they come up with something of actual value.

As far as the media' love affair of Obama goes, Keli is quite correct. I'm surprised they have yet to literally get on all fours and kiss his ass. Maybe I have to wait for the Inauguration for that one.

There use to be. But the Democratic Party, in a misguided and frenzied stampede to make itself look more Republican, ran off and left us in the dust.

There used to be sane and rational democrats until the FAR left of the party took over and now if you don't abide by the loon agenda, they drum you out.

It's the same with the Republicans. If you don't fall in step with the neocon line they marginalize you.
Re: Tire Guage: Media covering for Obama - Again!
I've never been a Republican so I don't know. But I do know the Dems have went WAY left.
In all honestly, I can see a legitimate 3rd party emergins in the next 2 to 3 elections. I think right now people are fed up and I think it will only get worse after this election.
The last decent, qualified person to run for President was probably 88 when Bush Sr. ran. Since then, we've had pathetic choices.

Would someone care to explain why it would take twenty-two (22) years to get 4 or 5 such wells into production?

Re: Tire Guage: Media covering for Obama - Again!
I've watched GMS this morning taking John McCain to task for his remarks and his stances while defending Obama. Yesterday it was McCain statements with big FALSE stamps over his face. Today it was Diane Sawyer pressing Neil Cavouto with how bad things are. When Neil wouldn't agree with her, she kept pressing.
I don't care what any says, the liberal media bias is there and it's obvious.
I quit watching NBC because I got sick of the media bias. I guess ABC is next. I won't even go to CBS.
