What is a Bobfest?

A couple weeks ago, when someone first told some of us- on a conference phone call about politics- that they were preparing for this year's "bobfest" in Wisconsin, I didn't know just what it was- but decided that logic says that it was some kind of festival to celebrate bobcats.

Sherm, you are into progressive activities. Did you ever hear about anything like this?

I was just up that way. Wisconsin's state house has Bob LaFollette in great respect just as Senator Byrd's statue graces the fine capital in West Virginia.

While driving through Madison, I turned on the local "progressive" radio station only to hear pure hatred toward the south. One "gem" stated that the 45 "civilized states" (no kidding) should be paid attention to and that the Democrats should forget the medieval south. Walmart dads and soccer moms were vilified. That 85% of the white vote in Mississippi went to Bush in 2004 showed the great ignorance of the people there, said the speaker from the show "Ring of Fire." They were compared to poor southerners who fought in the Civil War who were duped by their aristocratic handlers.

Of all the things that Fighting Bob was (many certainly in line with today's progressivism), I can't imagine that he would have taken such a condescending tone toward southerners or gun owners in PA, for that matter.

Well He was a progressive republican in the early 1900;s zig.

Lots of progressive ideas came from that wing of the republican party back then such as workers comp, unemployment insurance, etc.

But it did not take the republicans long to cleanse themselves of the likes of LaFollette and Teddy Roosevelt.

I'm not suprised you didn't have a comment for Mikes post Sherm. I'm sure you hear much the same tripe on Sirus.

I still maintain hope they will come to their senses and the old south become a model for progressive politics.

So if white southerners aren't democrats and progressive then they're racist, huh Sherm? You can say you don't stereotype but when you make a statement like "come to their senses" that's exactly what you're doing.

The difference is, you don't come right out and say it.

You can think what you like Sherman but when you make statements like that you are calling them racist and I don't care how much that pisses you off. You're not just disagreeing with their politics, you're saying they are out of line with society and that IS a racist statement. At least that's how I take it and I doubt I'm alone in that line of thought, on this board and among those in the deep south who don't think as you do.

Well again you are turning my statement 180 degrees and claiming just the opposite of what I actually said.
