Obama blackpeddaling before race over.

Barack Obama's senior advisers have drawn up plans to lower expectations for his presidency if he wins next week's election, amid concerns that many of his euphoric supporters are harboring unrealistic hopes of what he can achieve.

The sudden financial crisis and the prospect of a deep and painful recession have increased the urgency inside the Obama team to bring people down to earth, after a campaign in which his soaring rhetoric and promises of "hope" and "change" are now confronted with the reality of a stricken economy.

One senior adviser told The Times that the first few weeks of the transition, immediately after the election, were critical, "so there's not a vast mood swing from exhilaration and euphoria to despair."

The aide said that Obama himself was the first to realize that expectations risked being inflated.

In an interview with a Colorado radio station, Obama appeared to be engaged already in expectation lowering. Asked about his goals for the first hundred days, he said he would need more time to tackle such big and costly issues as health care reform, global warming and Iraq.

"The first hundred days is going to be important, but it's probably going to be the first thousand days that makes the difference," he said. He has also been reminding crowds in recent days how "hard" it will be to achieve his goals, and that it will take time.

First 1,000 days huh? That is 3 years.

His Presidency will be over before any "hope" of "change" ing anything is initiated by the Democrats.

And the National Debt will be $1 TRILLION + MORE and a lot more Democrats will be multi-millionaires except the $1 will be worth 39.27% less than what it is now..

BIG FRIGGING DEAL, ...... bm, ...... you are only talking Income Taxes.

What about all the other Federal Taxes one has to pay, ...... either directly ...... or indirectly because of increased cost of goods and services?

BM'er, how much do ya suppose it will cost me to add the B, C and D options onto my Medicare Plan?

Increased excise taxes and fees on utilities, increased gasoline taxes, tobacco taxes, inheritance taxes and capital gains taxes ........ to name a few.

Obama made about 190 promises in his acceptance speech that would cost taxpayers something like $3 trillion dollars a year of ADDITIONAL SPENDING to pay for.

He's bringing change alright as he want's the dollars and about all that will be lift is change.

Then put up or shut up, bmd. My bet is in with Sherman that my taxes will either go up or my "rebate" will go down by January of 2010.

My family of 5 makes a total of 33K per year. Once the marriage penalty is reinstated and the 10% bracket eliminated, thousands of people will be ADDED to the tax rolls while people in my situation (probably mostly Obama supporters) will find that their "rebates" will go away (fortunately more will go to wasteful bureaucracies to which the working class will be able to apply).

MY taxes really don't exist save for social security (which was meant to be something that I paid in for myself, ultimately, rather than some income redistribution scheme) and medicare.

Let me tell you about Democratic concern for the poor. A sales tax ends up being regressive, that is, it involves the poor paying a higher percentage of their income in taxes than the wealthy. This is so because most or all of the income the poor have must go to expenses and purchases (rather than savings or investments).

Where in the US are sales taxes the highest? Chicago, with 10.25%.

Now I prefer a sales tax to an income tax (of course, Illinois has one of those) and property taxes (which are sky high in Chicago as well). My point is that in one of the nation's most Democratic cities (Republicans don't even run there), the tax structure is such that the poor are the hardest hit. Even the sales tax on food is 2% (compared to 1% in most of the rest of the state).

When you give these creeps control of the country, it is going to have to be time to stop blaming Bush for what will become Chicago-like conditions for everybody. "Buyer's remorse" is going to set in; the only question is how long will it take.

Incidentally, bmd, my cousin has a successful landscaping business and his taxes would go up. His taxes are already astronomical. He pays more in income taxes plus property taxes than I make in a year.

But he's not doing nearly enough? Donkey dumplings.

You know I can't let this go. Do you when I was out of work where I could go to get a job? Do you know who was hiring (and providing insurance?) Do you know who was actually hiring citizens of the United States and paying a decent wage?

My cousin's landscaping business.

But such places must be taxed heavily, so they will turn (as most already have) to underpaying illegal immigrants and trying to avoid those taxes. Great freakin' plan!
