Obama choices for Energy, EPA seem ok....

Well it appears that Obama has decided to appoint competent and well qualified people to these posts.
But will they be politically acceptable?
Unfortunately, the article does not go into details such as where they stand some of the major issues, but once they get nominated I am sure they will be vetted thoroughly from left and right.
But at least they are obviously not anti-science.

The Chu pick is exciting because (he) will bring scientific rigor to the new administration’s energy policy,” said Daniel J. Weiss, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a liberal Washington think tank. “After the anti-science Bush administration, this is like going to a Mensa meeting after eight years of being trapped in the Flat Earth Society.”

I suppose the Center for American Progress (progressing into what, communism?) also thinks that there has been too much partisan rancor in the previous administration (unlike their completely fair comparisons to flat earthers).

Well can you guys give an honest response what you think about these appointments?
Are you opposed.
Do you think they are reasonable?
Or do you just want to ridicule the source?

I wanted to ridicule Daniel J. Weiss.
Chu has a stellar record of real achievment. I look for him to be shoved into PR and concentrating on fully funding the national labs. Browner is more political infighter. She's sort of a throwback to the Clinton Administration but what else do the democrats have to tap for experience?

So do you think they are good appointments?
Can you think of people more qualified?

You put it that way? No.
If the mission is to curb global warming and restructure our energy system (see your link), then the answer is no. They are not good appointments and will result in the U.S. being less competitive in the world.

The US will certainly be less competitive. I have grave concerns regarding what that group will do to the economy. Chu is brilliant, but radical. They're all radical.
The concern stems from the fact that this nation is in a recession. They will send it into a depression if they are successful at making the changes they would like to see. What's worse, is the changes they will implement will not take effect in India, or China. They will be burdens that will break the backs of Americans and strike a dagger through the heart of the US economy.
Do you think that cast of characters won't hurt coal mining in WV?

http://www.landmarklegal.org/DesktopFrame.aspx?frame=LONGTEXT&itemid=379Former EPA Administrator Carol Browner ordered the destruction of her computer records on the last full day of the Clinton Administration. The admission was made in a hearing today before Federal District Judge Royce Lamberth in a lawsuit brought by the Landmark Legal Foundation. On September 29, 2000, Landmark sued the EPA to force the disclosure of the identities of special interest groups that may have worked with the Agency in producing environmental regulations in the final days of the former administration.
Despite a FOIA injunction granted by federal judge Royce Lamberth, Browner had her hard drive erased. She is an attorney. She knew what she was doing. She's going to be controversial and hearings on her nomination will not be without rancor.
