On Christmas
On Christmas
Two thousand years ago a child was born to men,
the Lord of Lords who saves our souls from sin!
We, who believe, know of his virgin birth—
it should be celebrated joyfully o’er all the Earth!
It’s not a myth as the agnostics say.
It’s a fact of the Bible—it happened that way!
God, Himself, took the form of man—
This was done by Him according to His plan—
To save the souls of men born to die.
To atone for our sin—to destroy the Devil’s lie!
The real Christmas is Immanuel.
Believe in His birth—mark it well!
Santa and toys and candies and drink
will fade and die and putrefy and stink—
Jesus Christ is truly The Only Reason
we celebrate the wonderful Christmas season.

Re: On Christmas
Beautiful...I just hope that others will be respectful of a deceased parent's poetry--in the spirit of Winter Solstice or something... However, if they are not, then I will forgive them for my Father's sake.

Re: On Christmas
Was he lucid and in good health toward the end? I think modern medicine is too good at keeping us alive sometimes...

He declined in every aspect the last six months of his life. He did the crossword in just a few minutes everyday up until the last six months. Instead of keeping notes in church, he penned poems. I have hundreds of them. I am certain that they are not everyone's cup of tea; however, they are a special gift to me. I regret that I did not appreciate them more while he was alive.

Re: On Christmas
Terry,
I think it's wonderful that you're sharing his poetry now. It's a sweet tribute.

Re: On Christmas
My dad died two days after christmas in 1998 in a VA emergency room in upstate NY, after being admitted for chest pains. He was 55.
There is no "good" aspect to that but I caught a break in the fact that I had spent that morning (and the previous week) with him. I had been living in Morgantown and only saw him once or twice a year.
It has been said that growing up is a series of recognitions and growing old is a series of good-byes.
Gotta feed the chickens and the rabbits and break the ice off their water.
Nothing like a little cold air down the back to bring one back to the present.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
