YEAH, OKAY--but ask them how a squirrel feels when man cuts down a tree! Ask them, if they recycle! What do you want effective education--or affective education???

A startling number of children are falling through the cracks at one Chicago Public School. More than half of the kids didn't even pass the eighth grade. As CBS 2's Jim Williams reports there is fierce debate about who's to blame.
It is a debate that gone on for years in poor communities: do you blame the schools for the students' poor performance or do you blame their parents?
The mother of a one student who failed eighth grade says she got no warning her son was struggling. The school says she was notified, and other parents insist she did not do enough.
Tatianna Dennis' son Tarrell took his eighth grade photo complete with cap and gown, but the day before his grammar school's graduation, Tarrell learned he would not be marching down the aisle.

Anyone know how slight is slight?
Now how in hell could those 5th through 8th Graders have made significant gains in reading over the five-year period ...... and end up showing a slight decline when they got into the 10th Grade?
.
W.Va. 10th-graders show slight decline in reading
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tenth-graders in West Virginia and other states haven't improved their reading test scores much in the past five years, according to researchers with a Washington, D.C.-based education group.
West Virginia's fourth- and eighth-grade students scored at least modest and sometimes significant gains in reading and math tests over the five-year period. For instance, about 7 in 10 fourth-grade students were skilled or proficient readers in 2004, while about 8 in 10 fit that description by 2008.

I'll bet that more than 5/4 of students in Paten City cannot do them fractions nor parse a sentnance. Any takers? (Paten City is the armpit of the Nation).

I dunno. My 7 y/o had his portfolio review today. The teacher promoted him to the 3rd grade telling me he's already reading above a 3rd grade level and complimenting his general knowledge and vocabulary.
Think this chick is gonna stick to homeschooling

Math Tests Through the Decades, Copied verbatim from Chicken Hammer:
* 1950s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit ?
* 1960s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?
* 1970s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80. Did he make a profit?
* 1980s A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.
* 1990s A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of making a living?
Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong answers, and if you feel like crying, its ok. )
* 2009 Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo de la producciones es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho?
