Walter Cronkite Empty Walter Cronkite

Post by Aaron Sat Jul 18, 2009 7:49 am

A major part of what is wrong with America today is we have anchors and newspeople telling us how they think it should be instead of telling us the way it was, as Cronkite did for years.

A former wire service reporter and war correspondent, Cronkite valued accuracy, objectivity and understated compassion. He expressed liberal views in more recent writings but said he had always aimed to be fair and professional in his judgments on the air.

How much longer would the Vietnam War madness had gone on if "Uncle Walter" had not stepped out of his role as a newsperson during the Tet Offensive and declared his opinion that it was unwinnable?

18 months, 23 days, 7 hours, 43 minutes and 37 seconds.

He gave an op-ed, which is also a part of his job. And even in that op-ed, he was expressing the belief of the vast majority of senior military officials going back to 20 years.

What he didn't do was spend every minute of every day attempting to bring down one administration while doing everything in his power to support the opposition party and elect an ideology he believed in.

“Uncle Walter” did is job in an unbiased manner and didn't let his personal opinion interfere with his job. He retired as one of the most respected men in the news media which continues to this day.

His predecessor, after years pontificating an agenda, in the end, resorted to lying in his attempt to unseat a setting President during an election year, disgraced himself and his postition and was forced to retire from his anchor position.
