As soon as his cancer was detected, I noticed the immediate attempt at the “canonization” of old Teddy Kennedy by the mainstream media. They are saying what a "great American" he is. I say, let's get a couple things clear and not twist the facts to change the real history:
1. He was caught cheating at Harvard when he attended it. He was expelled twice, once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him.
2. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. Oops! The man can't count to four! His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to England (a step up from bootlegging liquor into the US from Canada during prohibition), pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea , where a war was raging. No preferential treatment for him! (like he charged that President Bush received).
3. Kennedy was assigned to Paris , never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged. Imagine a person of his "education" NEVER advancing past the rank of Private!
4. While attending law school at the University of Virginia , he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark. Yet his Virginia driver's license was never revoked.. Coincidentally, he passed the bar exam in 1959. Amazing!
5. In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash, and hospitalized for several months. Test results done by the hospital at the time he was admitted had shown he was legally intoxicated. The results of those tests remained a "state secret" until in the 1980's when the report was unsealed.. Didn't hear about that from the unbiased media, did we?
6. On July 19, 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts . At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur's keys to his Oldsmobile limousine, and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker. Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped, and into Poucha Pond..
7. He swam to shore and walked back to the party, passing several houses and a fire station. Two friends then returned with him to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew - that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities. Instead, Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep. Kennedy called the police the next morning and by then the wreck had already been discovered. Before dying, Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car.
The Kennedy family began "calling in favors", ensuring that any inquiry would be contained. Her corpse was whisked out-of-state to her family, before an autopsy could be conducted. Further details are uncertain, but after the accident Kennedy says he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Kopechne and he didn't call police because he was in a state of shock.
It is widely assumed Kennedy was drunk, and he held off calling police in hopes that his family could fix the problem overnight. Since the accident, Kennedy's "political enemies" have referred to him as the distinguished Senator from Chappaquiddick. He pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a SUSPENDED SENTENCE OF TWO MONTHS.
Kopechne's family received a small pay out from the Kennedy's insurance policy, and never sued. There was later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied, but her family successfully fought against this in court, and Kennedy's family paid their attorney's bills... a "token of friendship"?
8. Kennedy has held his Senate seat for more than forty years, but considering his longevity, his accomplishments seem scant. He authored or argued for legislation that ensured a variety of civil rights, increased the minimum wage in 1981, made access to health care easier for the indigent, and funded Meals on Wheels for fixed-income seniors and is widely held as the "standard-bearer for liberalism". In his very first Senate roll, he was the floor manager for the bill that turned U.S. immigration policy upside down and opened the floodgate for immigrants from third world countries.
9. Since that time, he has been the prime instigator and author of every expansion of an increase in immigration, up to and including the latest attempt to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Not to mention the pious grilling he gave the last two Supreme Court nominees, as if he was the standard bearer for the nation in matters of “what’s right". What a pompous ass!
10. He is known around Washington as a public drunk, loud, boisterous and very disrespectful to ladies. JERK is a better description than "great American". “A blonde in every pond” is his motto.
Let's not allow the spin doctors to make this jerk a hero -- how quickly the American public forgets what his real legacy is. Let’s keep this going for truth, justice and the American way .

Once more, he is attempting to change the rules to name his successor. When Romney was governor Kennedy petitioned the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to replace a Senator with an unexpired term through a special election rather than allow a Republican governor to appoint someone unacceptable to the family. Now that Romney is gone he wants DeVaul Patrick to do the appointing.
Preferential treatment all his life. Preferential treatment in death. Ted Kennedy.

Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
I wonder what a teddy kennedy thinks about as he approaches the end of his life. Does he suppose that he will get the same preferential treatment in the next life that he did in this? I don't say that lightly. We may be able to fool people in this life, and skate by on our family name and wealth. Death is a great equalizer.
I pray for his spiritual and physical wellbeing. He has done a great amount of damage and I wish he were never elected Senator.

Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
Why would you pray for him, Michael? He has never shown a bit of remorse for his crimes or an ounce of regret for any of his "sins". You're an exceptionally kind-hearted man with wonderful intentions and I know you believe in the power of prayer so I wish you'd spend your time praying for someone or something worthy of your time, attention, and good wishes. Ted Kennedy is worthy of none of that.
There were members of the Kennedy clan that accomplished great things in their lives. Teddy is not one of them. When I think of the unmitigated gall of the man sickens me. I seem to recall he had Obama deliver a letter to Pope Benedict requesting the pope's prayers. I hope the pope prays for refugees and victims of child abuse and other innocents instead of a dying old man with no conscience.

Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
Hi Steph,
None us our worthy of God's favor. That Teddy Kennedy is in particular a man who has caused great harm is obvious, and as he prepares to meet his maker, I am very, very worried for him.
If his heart changes, and I pray that it does, he will be a new person with a new found realization of the harm he has caused. If it does not, and that is quite likely, then I have every confidence that the man is going to have the most wretched of futures. We can easily lose heart when we see people who do great evil prosper, but this does not extend beyond the grave.
As for the victims of abuse, the unborn, and those victimized by brutality and indifference, I take to heart your counsel to pray for them, too. Surely if I can muster up sympathty for that Kennedy fellow........

Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
You're probably too good for this cruel world, my friend. I know you're better than I am. I don't wish Ted Kennedy harm, but I cannot offer him good wishes either. He had every advantage in life and he could have done great good for people instead of leading the life he did.
Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
Hi again Steph,
You are very kind. On a purely secular level, remember that the man is dying pretty horribly, and at the end of his life, he will not be able to call upon his democratic connections to cheat the grim reaper.
While I wish him very well, I wish his policies nothing short of abysmal failure.

Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
You're correct, his connections won't be able to help him cheat death, but he does appear to be using the power and wealth he has amassed in his lifetime to cheat the citizens of the Commonwealth of the ability to elect his replacement.
Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
Me thinks all the bleeding heart liberals that pray for such people that they might become better people and not do the dastardly things that they do ……. is the primary reason that they continue doing those dastardly things that said liberals are praying that they shouldn’t be doing.
Their actions are akin to someone continually feeding a hungry biting dog in hopes that it will quit biting them.
One can never cure a biting dog from being hungry except by one solution, ........ the "final" one.

Re: The Last of The Kennedy Dynasty
Sam,
Remember that I wish him well, but not his policies. I hope that the Democratic Congress gets nothing that they want and then gets replaced, and I hope that Obama goes back to being a community organizer after he gets trounced in 2012. If the right candidate surfaces, I will do everything, including prayer but far beyond it, to see that this candidate wins.
I wish Kennedy no political success whatsoever, and his attempt to change Massachusettes law only highlights the man's hypocrisy. But the man is ready to take a final exam and it's not going to go the way it did at Harvard.
