To the Editor:
The President wants to encourage students to study and stay in school in an address to public schools on September the 8th. That's commendable. However, the White House's initial recommendation that teachers nationwide assign students a paper on how to "help the president" the day before his address to the nation on HealthCare does not pass the smell test.
In the President's search for help on a socialist health care bill, he has politicized the public school--its teachers and students. (I am surprised that the White House did not also request that children wear brown shirts to school on September the 8th.)
In Preston County, the permission slip was not sent home until Friday. The next day of classes and the next day the BOE will be open is the day of the address. There was no time allowed for parental input. Furthermore, parents of students who were not present Friday will send their child to this indoctrination having never seen the permission form!
Moreover, the so-called permission form did not state, "I give permission for my child...," rather, it was worded, "I do not want my my child to watch President Obama's address." Parents who wanted their child to attend should be identified--not those who oppose the President and his demagoguery. (We know this regime's propensity for keeping lists. Perhaps those parents who refuse permission will be flagged for re-education?)
