The straight poop behind the swings ban in WV

It is not the swings that are dangerous. It is the ground that holds them--on which children fall. So, all the ground will be removed from around all WV public schools. Of course, removing the ground will also have the added beneficial result in that other dangerous things like swings, trees and buildings will be rendered safe, as well.

About 10 years ago we time and time again admonished our three grandchildren to not jump on our bed. But they loved using our bed as a tramploline when our backs were turned. One evening, while we were in the living room and they were in the bedroom, we heard laughing and giggling, and then a loud thump, and then silence. The wooden side bedrail had broken after one too many spirited jumps by three kids with seemingly boundless energy- and the bed callopsed onto the floor. When we came into the bderoom and saw the result of the obviously disobeyed admonition to not jump on our bed, 5 year old Hollie, trying to find some shred of non-culpability, said ever so seriously, "But Pawpaw, it wasn't the jumping on the bed that broke it. It was the landing that broke it."

HA, I didn't know they banned swings from around all WV public schools.

That actually surprises me to hear that because such an action is not at all characteristic of lefty liberal thinking School employees, Board Members, etc.

But now the "Authorization for all School Boards to purchase Football Player equivalent "body armor" to be worn by any student choosing to "swing on a swing" ...... would have been what I would have expected.

New York City decided to solve the problem of children getting hurt from falling off or out of playground/park equipment such as swings, slides, climbing bars, etc., by purchasing and installing thick, black rubber mats on the ground underneath all said playground equipment at a cost of ten$ n’ ten$ of thou$and$ of dollars.

Only two problems with their grandiose idea:

1. No one considered the fact that most every kid that goes to a park or playground to play, goes barefoot with short shorts on and many without shirts on.

2. No one considered the fact that via the power of the Summer Sun all that thick black rubber matting would heat up to 130+ degrees F and any bare skin touching it would quickly blister.

You guys laugh but a lot of schools are doing away with playground equipment along with games like dodge ball and other activities where a child could get hurt. Were that all, maybe, just maybe they would be justified but they've also banned Valedictorians and similar titles because it makes those who do not achieve as high a level feel inferior and claim it is the cause of emotional distress among students who come up short.

We cushioned our swings with gravel. Am I the only who launched himself into space at the top of an arc? Am I the only one who actively tried to run the swing over the swingset to see what would happen?

We used to have competitions to see who could jump the furtherest from the swing. I am pleased to say that I was the champion 3 years running at 2 different schools.

On the downside, I was normally one of the first ones off the merry-go-round and it usually ended in my losing my lunch. I guess pride kept compelling me to get back on.

Tis a shame that kids today don't know what they are missing.

Back in grade school a bunch of us tried to do that. And there was usually someone who said that he had done it- but that it was on a Saturday when no one else was on the school playground to see it. But it is nigh impossible without a TREMENDOUS "boost". Because, like a satellite falls toward its orbital gravity center if it does not have enough speed (which converts to centrifugal force), the swing chains become less taut and the swinger starts falling back before he / she reaches the top to loop over.

Myth Busters attempted it with a child sized crash test dummy. It required a boost from a rocket to get the swing with a child in it around the bar.

Yes, .... yes, .... yes, .... the above is an unquestionable, undeniable, absolute fact about all school children as will most every lefty liberal bleeding heart protective parent, guardian, teacher, psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker and/or "troughfeeder" will attest to.

And yes, .... yes, .... yes, ...., any and every competitive type school recognition or activity that any student might feel inferior at competing for or participating in should be banned, ….. banned, …. banned, ……. that is except of course does NOT, in no way in Hell include, ….. football, basketball, golf, etc.

While I'm not sure what the point of your post is Sam-you'll have to clarify-Golf is not a competative sport in the nature of Football or Basketball as the individuals competes not against others but against the course with the winner the individual who managed to put the ball in the hole in the least amount of shots.

Golf is not a competative sport in the nature of Football or Basketball as the individuals competes not against others but against the course with the winner the individual who managed to put the ball in the hole in the least amount of shots.

Men's Golf Finishes 11th

The WVSU men's golf team had a rough day two at the WVIAC Northern Regional championships Monday and wound up in 11th place in the 13-team field.

Rob Erwin led the Yellow Jacket effort with a two-round total of 161.

Men's Golf 6th After Day One

The WVSU men's golf team is tied for sixth place in a 13-team field after the first day of play at the Northern Regional tournament being held at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.

Men's Golf Finishes 8th at Concord Invitational

The WVSU men's golf team finished 8th out of 13 teams Sunday at the Concord Invitational at the Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, WV.

Senior Rob Erwin led the way for the Yellow Jackets with a 9th place individual finish. Erwin fired rounds of 74 and 76 on the 7200 yard George Cobb layout. Junior Garrett Humphrey also played well for WVSU finishing 19th individually.
