How close are we to the 10 points of Communism Empty How close are we to the 10 points of Communism

In doing some research, it is clear that we as a nation have been heading toward, at the very least, a mixed economy. I believe that we are closer the a communist government then most realize and am curious as to what others think.

For the record, here are the points?

10 point program of Communism

1.Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2.A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3.Abolition of all right of inheritance.
4.Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5.Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6.Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7.Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8.Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9.Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of the population over the country.
10.Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.

How close are we to the 10 points of Communism Empty Re: How close are we to the 10 points of Communism

Fifty years ago the allure of communism was limited to students and other young people without life experience. Today those same people have refused to let go of their youthful flirtations with communism despite the failure of communism in any country in which it was tried.

It's curious you'd post this now. I was thinking of posting a question about the inverse relationship of the size of government (any government) to our personal liberties. That is, the Austrians tell us that the bigger government is, the fewer freedoms we enjoy as individuals. To me, that alone is enough to warrant limiting the size and scope of the government.

Communism is the apotheosis of big government and the loss of personal freedoms.

Somehow, it has become socially acceptable to openly embrace communism. Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson treated communism as an enemy without regard to politics. Now communism, or at least elements of communism, are widely regarded as mainstream. To me, this creeping acceptance of communism is what led to our willingness to countenance the use of eminent domain for economic development as opposed to public works and a number of other questionable initiatives that limit our personal freedoms. It is very troubling.
