The number of Americans receiving food stamps rose to a record 41.8 million in July as the jobless rate hovered near a 27-year high, the government said.

Among the 2009 findings:

_The poorest poor are at record highs. The share of Americans below half the poverty line — $10,977 for a family of four — rose from 5.7 percent in 2008 to 6.3 percent. It was the highest level since the government began tracking that group in 1975.

_The poverty gap between young and old has doubled since 2000, due partly to the strength of Social Security in helping buoy Americans 65 and over. Child poverty is now 21 percent compared with 9 percent for older Americans. In 2000, when child poverty was at 16 percent, elderly poverty stood at 10 percent.

From the get go President Obama has screwed the pooch on his Presidency and now as he wallows in Bush-like poll numbers, he wants to blame everything on Republicans from the past in he inherited everything from Bush, to current ones-what he deems the party of no-to future ones as whacko's.

What he should be doing is looking in a mirror as his problems are his and his alone. It is he who came into office on a mandate of health care reform and immediately gave it all over the Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid while he went running around the world trying to make everyone like us again. It is he who increased troops in Afghanistan and turned the war on terrorism into a nation building project, it is he who interfered with the markets and is now paying the price for interfering and it is he who has continually made every speech a 'campaign' speech demeaning Republicans at every turn and it is he who has broken every campaign promise he made.

If anyone wants to know why we are in the current situations we are in, look no further then Washington in general but specifically at the President of the United States of America. It is he who is responsible for the tone of the nation and from day one, he has fostered an "us against them" mentality that is as much responsible for the current mood as anyone.
