Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat
PHOENIX — One of the Arizona shooting victims was arrested Saturday and then taken for a psychiatric evaluation after authorities said he took a picture of a tea party leader at televised town hall meeting and yelled: "you're dead."
James Eric Fuller, 63, objected to something Trent Humphries said during the forum taped for a special edition of ABC's "This Week" with Christiane Amanpour, Pima County sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan said. Fuller was in the front row and apparently became upset when Humphries suggested that any conversations about gun control should be delayed until all the dead were buried, KGUN-TV in Tucson reported.
Fuller was arrested on misdemeanor disorderly conduct and threat charges, Ogan said. While Fuller was being escorted out, deputies decided he needed a mental health evaluation and he was taken to a hospital, where he remained Saturday evening.
The hospital will determine when he will be released, Ogan said.

Re: Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat
Hmmmmm. Can it be that people who are not in their right minds can be influenced by ANYTHING? Perhaps the Obama administration's patsies can suggest the banning of all political and religious speech, lest someone take something the wrong way.
I now truly shudder at the possibility they should actually like to limit the freedom of speech of their opponents. The Ministry of Truth has finally managed to employ someone good at their work.

Re: Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat
The guy had recently been through a traumatic event (we can say that getting shot is traumatic, no?) and was, almost certainly, on medication.
Death threats are wrong, no matter who makes them, but can we understand why this guy might have made a couple of poor decisions in where and how he placed the blame, or are we going to use the false equivalence that making a threat is exactly the same as executing it (taking innocents along the way)?
Not that I really care.
I like the joke about Ministry of Truth. As if conservatives have never squelched information or downplayed events when they have been in the catbird's seat.
At least I realize both sides are guilty.

TerryRC,
Of course both sides are guilty. Propagandists always frame conversations, play up events (or down), and use other such political scams when it fits their purposes.
The difference is that right now a major segment of the American left would like the 1st amendment not to apply to conservative broadcasters due to a very tragic situation. "The right plays these games too" is NOT an excuse.

Never did. I already said that .
What I did say is that, in light of what happened, her words and rhetoric do look bad. It would have been a good chance for her to tone it down.
Instead she went on attack.

TerryRC,
The discourse of citizens ought to be amended when a crazy, atheist, marijuana user kills innocent people? I don't care to give such people the courtesy of changing my life because they are idiots.
Should atheists stop disbelieving because a crazy atheist shot people? Should marijuana users in California using for medicinal purposes give up their use? Shall we ban the reading of Nietzsche?

Did I say so?
I called for EVERYONE to voluntarily tone it down.
Nobody listened.

Because what you said was without merit, Terry. Freedom of speech is almost sacred. We should not have to check our words based on some lunatic in Tucson. Not me, Sarah Palin, Bill Maher, or anyone.
The day some schmuck in Arizona can limit the 1st amendment is the day this country officially loses its mind.

Re: Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat
Terry,
Surely you're going to think I'm singling you out, but that isn't my intention. What I am going to try to do here is point out your hypocrisy.
When the young girl in MA killed herself after suffering relentless bullying from her classmates, I insisted (and continue to insist) the school officials who did nothing to protect her from her tormentors must be held accountable. They must share blame. You told me life was tough, the girl was weak, the principal & co. are not at all responsible.
On the other hand, politicians and media personalities, even politically active citizens need to tone down. Why?

Maybe it is a sign of repressed jealousy due to an undiagnosed Oedipus complex?

Yell fire in a crowded theater or threaten to kill the president. We'll see how sacred that freedom of speech is.
On the other hand, politicians and media personalities, even politically active citizens need to tone down. Why?
Because they are our leaders and are supposed to be setting a better example than a bunch of immature kids.

I didn't screw my mother, Sam, I screwed yours.

I also note he didn't answer your question about his contradiction in opinion Stephanie. My assessment of TC from another thread stands.

Re: Arizona shooting victim arrested after threat
Sam makes a snide comment about me and my possible sexual love for my mother.
I respond in kind and nobody takes him to task, just me.
Speaking of contradictions, address that one.
Or are you saying that I am the only one guilty of uncivil discourse?
Which contradiction would you like me to address? I did address Steph's comment about bullying and having politicians tone it down.
You just didn't like the answers. Don't you think we should hold our officials and spokespeople to a higher standard than some kids that may or may not know better?
I do.

I'm trying to point out the hypocrisy of many of your statements.
That pretty girl kills herself after being tormented and bullied at school for months. Nobody helps her and she kills herself. Your response to my instance that school officials share blame in this tragedy because they KNEW and were asked for help by both the student and her parents was basically TFB. Life is tough. The kid was week.
On the other hand, a mentally ill lone gunman attacks a US Congresswoman and kills a bunch of bystanders and Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin get blamed because of rhetoric and you don't call out their accusers?
Then, to make matters even more interesting, you tell me that our elected officials etc need to tone it down and be more civil because they are the "adults" and in the VERY SAME post you tell Sam you've slept with his mother?
OMFG, Terry. I swear to you I like you. I know you're intelligent, but something in your brain must not be wired properly if you can't understand wtf I'm trying to tell you here.
