Braxton prosecutor still on job

Braxton County Assistant Prosecutor Dan Dotson said he has not been fired from the prosecutor's office or removed from two cases where he is a special prosecutor after being arrested on charges of domestic assault over the weekend.

"I plan to go forward with both of them," he said of the cases assigned to him in Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties. "I have a hearing in Pocahontas County [today]."

Dotson said he would be staying out of the Braxton County prosecutor's office for a while. He has not been removed from either case by the state Prosecuting Attorneys Institute.

Dotson said he is waiting for a judge to be appointed in the case of a Greenbrier County deputy who is charged with unlawful wounding.

Greenbrier Deputy Kevin Sayers is accused of beating county prosecutor Kevin Hanson during an altercation in August.

Pocahontas County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Alkire II pleaded guilty several weeks ago to misdemeanor brandishing a weapon, Dotson said. Alkire, son of Pocahontas Sheriff Robert Alkire, was arrested for a Nov. 30 incident in which he was charged with firing his department-issue pistol unsafely.

Today's hearing in the case is at the request of Norman Alderman, a Pocahontas County resident and operator of the E-Tater Forum Web site, Dotson said. Alderman wants to bring additional charges in the Alkire case and is requesting a circuit judge allow him to present his case before a grand jury, Dotson said.

"There is some mass conspiracy there supposedly," Dotson said.

Dotson was arrested at his house in Webster County early Sunday morning by Nicholas County Sheriff's Deputy D.J. Holdren.

Dotson's wife had filed a domestic-violence protective order against him. He was charged after an incident in the parking lot of the U-Save gas station in Craigsville on Saturday night, Holdren said.

"I cannot wait to deal with those charges in the court of law," Dotson said Thursday.
