Re: First
Ohio, the minute I seen the picture of Red Green I knew it was you.
Stephanie told me about this site.
Just curious, being you were 1st poster, ..... did you have anything to do with setting this up?

No, sir. I signed on and claimed the first post and then set about importing my Red Green avatar.

Re: First
Huummmm, it is "powered by" PHPBB, .... the same source as was the Gazette Forums.
I'ma thinking that maybe it is then based on the CN's server ...... and they are still providing the "service" but wanted to disassociate the Gazette name for both publicity and legality reasons.
GEEZE, iffen so, I retract a couple things I wasa thinking when they shut the other Forums down.
cheers

Re: First
The other forum was vBulletin Sam. I actually looked at doing a forum because I liked the format but didn't want to pay the annual fee of $160.00 to use it. This is very similar though and I think I can get used to it in no time.

Re: First
Looking at their home page, I suspect the Gazette went to these people to set up their forum. That is, Charleston newspapers has nothing to do with it. https://www.forumotion.com/ But by the same token, all the nomenclature is familiar.
Looking at the process, I believe Stephanie set it all up.
I sent a letter to the Gazette asking them what happened. I hope to hear something from them today.

Re: First
So who all from the old forum knows about this? I know Cato and Ziggy were on the yahoo group thing so I assume we'll see them. Does anyone have contact with any of the others?

It would be nice to have access to the membership list. I'm thinking it would be nice to have a couple resident jerks just so we don't cannibalize each other. I think it will get pretty boring agreeing all the time...

Re: First
Oh, I'm sure when Sherm gets here, that won't happen.
The problem is, he isn't here enough.
When you try to bring up the previous page it gives you a message that says the forum is no longer available with an email address for James Davidson. jdavison [at] wvgazette [dot] com.
As the adminstrator, maybe Stephanie could email Mr. Davidson and he could forward this link to subscribers to the Gazette forum.

Re: First
I contacted everyone I had information for. I found Aaron through another source and Ziggy is forwarding to Sherm. I would be very surprised if we don't see Ziggy & Sherm here. In addition to Cato, Sheik also sent me his email addy. I didn't email this to those people, I just posted it at the Yahoo Group. If they don't appear in a day or so, I'll email them.
I was searching last night for another forum. I thought Yahoo was a fine way to stay in touch and a temporary solution but knew I would miss the forum format. Anyway I found another forum but kept getting error messages when I tried to join. It had a link on the homepage for this forumotion site so I just did it.
I'm hoping to get this thing figured out well enough to at least make some of you moderators. I frequently lose my phone service as you all know. I'd like to have at least a couple of backups to me if problems should arise and I'm not available.
I see no reason to moderate this other than for spam, personally. However, if it gets too nasty I suppose we could address it then. I figure if I can take being called an "Iraqi baby killer" I can take pretty much any insult without resorting to banning people etc. That said, if it gets too out of hand with morons we could put banning them to a vote or something.
I included international boards because I always felt the Gazz forum could have used them. I included a technology board because so many people mentioned wanting one. Unfortunately, I have no way of finding hyper, Keith or any of the other members I seem to recall requesting one.
Maybe the Gazz will bring their forum back. I'm not sure why they took it down. I suspect that Aaron was correct that 1C was in fact Ted what's his name and when he posted not only the name but his pic that moron had a cow and went to Gazz management raising all kinds of hell.
I'm happy we have the people we have, but I will miss many of the others. I'm open to any and all suggestions for finding them. While I seldom agreed with many of them and even exchanged barbs with some, I think some of the people I disagreed with the most were the most interesting and added a great deal to our conversations.

Re: First
I e-mailed Mr. Davison to ask what happened. I have not heard from him yet but if he works for the Gazette (and I have to presume he does) then he'd work later in the day for a morning paper. I'll ask him about either a membership list or showing the url on his notice or something if he writes me back.

We need somebody else to do that. lol
When the forum was shut down I sent him an email asking what happened to it and telling him, "please give us the forum back." He wrote back saying they needed someone to "watch" it and decided to do other things, blah, blah, blah.......so I sent him an email telling him I was cancelling my Gazz subscription and would encourage others to do the same.
He's not likely to respond positively to me. lol
Why don't you do it, Aaron. It was your idea and a good one at that.

I sent Mr. Davison an email requesting he post a link to this forum, send an email to the members or give me a copy of the email addresses they have. We shall see.

Re: First
Hello gals and guys.
Sherm is on the road, but he'll be along here I'm sure when he gets in, I'm rather certain.
OK, who is this Ted guy (1-C)? Someone said he was a lawyer, and works with a "liberal" group?
I am glad to see all of you here, and I hope the others find their way (well, most of the others, anyway). Robo too- anyone got a line on Robo? Cato too; he and I don't agree on much, but he's still a good guy.
But if WV and 1-C don't make it to here, I won't cry even one tear.
BTW, about "Pastafarian"- I think he's a reincarnation of someone who was on the old old Gazette forums- a couple years ago- but I forget the name he went by then.
Happy holidays to all.
Ziggy

I sent a couple of emails to the Jamison guy explaining the situation and didn't hear a response. Maybe a call is in order.

I was responding to the "resident jerk" request, a position for which, I assure you, I am well qualified.
We will never hear from the old forum managers.

My bad...I see that now that I took a minute to read it in context!!!
We still need more people though. I think we've got a decent mix of people here, just not enough of us as the conversation sometimes lags.
