So what is wrong with "mob rule/majority imposed menatlity" as long as it comes about through lawful elections and not via street mobs?

The Constitution does not allow even a majority to violate the Constitution. Otherwise we would have had government sponsored / supported religion of some kind decades or centuries ago.

Re: The National Popular vote
It is being violated daily with socialist entitlement programs.
It is being violated daily in the name of terrorism.
It is being violated daily for a number of reasons.
How many tax and spend liberals will sell out as Mike Huckabee did for the 3 G's?
It's only a matter of time until you have christians willing to trade spending for their agenda and if you think the TC's and Stephanies of the world can stand up to the majority if that happens, your sadly mistaken Frank.

Re: The National Popular vote
Ziggy,
I think states using proportional representation in choosing their legislatures is an excellent idea. That would open up the state governments to 3rd and 4th parties and we desperately need alternatives. Then, perhaps, small parties can gain the traction they need to compete nationally.
I don't view PR as being compatible with the electoral college, however, as a majority of electors is needed to choose the President, or else it goes to the House of Representatives (with each state getting one vote--another advantage to the small states).

Then file an action to have the Courts review and rule on it. The Constitution directs the Courts to settle conflict questions involving the law and the Constitution.
