Well according to Drudge, Obama has made his choice and will probably announce tomorrow morning.
Or the next day.

He's just trying to upstage Hillary--or trying to shift attention from his Saddleback fiasco.

Re: Obama picks vp...
NBC this evening seemed to be trying to convince listeners that it would be Joe Biden- but without specifically saying so.

IMO, Biden is who he should pick. I thought so before he hoodwinkled the nomination.

Well I would like to like Biden but his kow-towing to the credit card companies turns me off.
(although it should pick up some republican votes)

Biden is in Tblisi and might have trouble finding a microphone (although I must admit he has a pretty good nose for finding media).

I think Biden would be a good choice for Obama. He is very knowledgeable, even if I don't always like the conclusions he reaches.

Re: Obama picks vp...
I've said before that among Democrats I like Biden. He isn't a rube, at least. If we're going to have somebody as clueless as Obama, it might help to have a VP with some knowledge and experience.
Obama still wouldn't get my vote, though.

Well does his kow-towing to the credit card companies bother anyone else?
Or is that negated by his vast experience and broad knowledge of international affairs?

I just told you I'm not voting for him. So why don't you answer a question for me.
Does Barack Obama's kow-towing to radical pro-abortionists by refusing to vote to ban so-called partial birth abortions bother you?
Or is that negated by his willingness to increase spending by 400 billion dollars and saddle American taxpayers for generations with another entitlement program via universal healthcare?

There's a video of Biden out, driving a 15 mpg F 250 4x4 nonetheless in which he says "I'm not the guy".

Re: Obama picks vp...
Well it appears Drudge might of been wrong about him picking so soon.
They are now saying it might be Sat.
I figure they are just trying to build suspense.
That can bsckfire if they play that game too long then anticipation and expectation levels get so high whoever he picks will be a disappointment.
They say McCain's first choice is Lieberman but he is not sure he can get by with it.
The social conservatives might bolt the party.
But where would they go?
Ron Paul has already said he is bolting the party so in a way they have already played their ace.
So McCain has nothing to lose in a way.

Well Steph I have said many times I favor universal access single payer on the health care debate.
Obama's plan does not go far enough for me.
But I could live with it for starters.

Re: Obama picks vp...
You can live with it Sherm because between your retirement, your wife's salary and your retirement job, you're in the six figure bracket. Hell, even without your job your still close to the six figure bracket.
The problem is, middle class America can't live with it. Entitlement programs have this country on the brink of financial ruin as it is. UHC will push it over the edge.

I figure there were some people saying the same thing about Social Security 70 years ago.
Same old same old.

And they were right. Our government should have listened to them and maybe we woudln't be in the financial position we're in now.

America is not $ 9 trillion in debt, nor even $1.00 in debt because of Social Security.

Re: Obama picks vp...
Who said anything about Social Security? I said entitlement programs. Americans who receive social security retirement fund that. It is the SSI disability, DHHR, HUD, Medicare and medicade that is responsibile for out debt.

Re: Obama picks vp...
Unless $$$ are raised to pay for it, it is anything and everything that the government spends money on that is responsible for the debt.

Re: Obama picks vp...
Ziggy,
You are quite right, and I am infuriated at the general level of ignorance (not directed towards anyone here, but rather my students/colleagues/friends/family/whomever) on the matter. At this moment, Social Security is running at a surplus. I believe it will be for some time yet (edited because my memory is too hazy)
I am all about allowing for private options, but we should at least know the present situation. I am all about reforming or even ending social security, but that doesn't change the present reality.

Re: Obama picks vp...
And so long as Americans are paying 12.6% to fund Social Security, it will remain solvent if wasteful UNFUNDED entitlement spending is reeled in. If not, it will drain the SS trust fund, if not in our life time, then in that of our children.
We as a government should limit discretionary spending to that which is constitutional, pay the debt down and then start returning money to where it rightfully belongs, the taxpayers!!!
