Debate performance results in a nutshell:
Summary of Obama's debate performance tonight: "I've got a bracelet, too."
PBS ^ | 9/26/2008 | PBS
PBS ^ | 9/26/2008 | PBS
Barack was the very junior senator on the defensive the entire evening. After John McCain eloquently (and without notes) discussed the bracelet he wears given to him by the mom of a dead Iraq war vet. Trying to prove his own support for the troops, Obama chimed in with a pathetic "I've got a bracelet, too," as he looked down at his notes to read the name of the soldier.

Re: Debate performance results in a nutshell:
That soldier is Ryan David Jopek. Barack Obama doesn't appear to have known that fact.
Here's his complete line:
"Jim, let me just make a point. I've got a bracelet too. From, Sergeant, uh, uh, from the mother of, uh, Sergeant, Ryan David Jopek."

Re: Debate performance results in a nutshell:
Did you watch the debate?
McCain wouldn't answer the questions posed by the moderator half of the time.

Re: Debate performance results in a nutshell:
Terry,
With three small kids I did not get to listen to very much of it, but what little I heard from McCain and Obama did not impress me at all. I heard some real dodges and heard McCain in particular repeat himself and laughing at his being called "the sheriff."
Having not heard much of it, I cannot say who "won," but McCain in particular sounded weak. I just plain don't like Obama but I do like his speaking manner.

Re: Debate performance results in a nutshell:
I thought the debate was off since McCain bailed out.
Guess he changed his mind?
But after seeing Terri's post I turned on CNN and their polls do not agree with Terri's analysis.
Their polls show Obama "won" by a wide margin.
Course they are really not "debates" anyway.
More and more it looks like McCain's support is shrinking to the same hard core rightwing base of around 30%.
Same as Bush.
It is sad, really.
I am like Terry RC I would have probably voted for McCain at one time.
But he just seems to feel a need to pander to the rightwing fringe.

If Obama won, it is because he agreed with McCain on almost every point.

Re: Debate performance results in a nutshell:
McCain wanted town hall type debates for the same reason Obama wanted question and answer types with a moderator.
Town Hall favors more open, spontaneous answers while moderator questions (pre-approved by the candidates of course) favor a polished speaker such as Obama.
Of course he would do better in that type of setting. After all, it is his one and only qualification for the job he is applying for.

Re: Debate performance results in a nutshell:
Sherm,
The CNN poll, if you read it's own description, was a statistical tie given that the sample was overrepresented with Democrats.
They concluded that this was a victory for Obama who was ahead before the debate.

From the CNN website:
"The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey is not a measurement of the views of all Americans, since only people who watched the debate were questioned and the audience included more Democrats than Republicans."

Haven't you heard "Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing?" (Or, would yo only apply this to me?)

You are kidding, right?
Haven't you heard "Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing?" (Or, would yo only apply this to me?)
I would apply it to anyone that made a big deal about their religious beliefs (or anyone else's), particularly "crusaders" like you.

Sherm,
Just in case you missed it earlier. As it turns out, self-identified Democrats support the Democratic Candidate.
Shocking.

Sod,
What percentage points did those same pollsters have Kerry up over Bush four years ago?
