Kudos to Preston County officials
Our county elected officials are to be commended for their wise and measured approach to
the claims of Mr. Garvin about a Horse Center/Racetrack/Slots Casino/Water theme park
("rivaling Disney World and Six Flags over Atlanta!") for Preston County.
Mr. Garvin's scheme seems to be that, after the county gives him the land, he will first build
a casino. Then he will use proceeds from slot machines to build a horse farm and then a
horse racetrack. Then proceeds from the horse race track will be used to complete Las
Preston-- Third Entertainment Wonder of the USA! (And, all one thousand acres of it will be
under one roof! Hey, someone call Mr. Garvin-that roof could be use in the winter for skiing,
snowboarding and tubing!)
Some have suggested that this plan be put to the voters of Preston County-and Monongalia
County! Supporters think that Mon County voters should be included because of the
upward mobility and money of the university city's filthy rich elite.
I think that Mon County should be included in the vote-as long as Prestonians can vote to
impose a User Fee of $100/month on all Monongalians for the pristine waters of the Cheat
River that we send them, for the shade by our mountains from the harmful rays of the early
morning sunrise, for cool breezes from those same mountains, buckwheat cakes, a place of
recreational respite for the beleaguered citizens of the greater Morgantown-metroplex, and
for access to Las Preston.
There's already been one benefit from Mr. Garvin's scheme: fertilizer. The horse manure
is already hip high in Hazelton!
