Accidental Victory?
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/
Well it is ironic that, the one time in my history of political prediction I was able to put aside my rose colored glasses, I might have been wrong.
When it became evident that Barack Obama would be the Democrat nominee I figured there was not a snowball's chance in hail.
I figured McCain would take WV "bigtime".
And probably have coattails.
But believe it or not I underestimated the level of disdain for republican rule that has developed over the past eight years in the mountain state.
It now appears that not only will it be a banner year for Dems at the local level, but Obama might actually carry the state.
Even though the Obama high command had written WV off and decided not to waste their money here.
But lo and behold the political advertising the Obama national campaign has been aiming at surrounding states has bled over into WV to the point where we have moved into the "toss-up" category.
So not only could Obama have won here if he had made an effort, but he may accidentally win anyway.
Go figure....
also p.s. another thing. I mentioned on another thread how hard it is to get signs this year and you gotta get on a waiting list, etc.
Well I found out the reason is the Obama people gave up on wv and didnt even send any signs so they have to send undercover operatives over to Ohio and either bum theirs or do a "midnight requisition" and scarf up some from the Ohio roadside just to get a freakin' sign to put up.
And we still might win!!!
What a country. What a Party.

Re: Accidental Victory?
I don't know if enough West Virginians will come out and support Obama and allow him to win WV, but I'm sure that if he continues to outspend as he's done all fall and democrats keep pushing the economic stimulus check, you guys will certainly make a strong showing.
After all, West Virginians have a long, tattered history of selling their votes to the highest bidder.

Re: Accidental Victory?
Seems that McCain has rebuilt his lead in the last week and is now leading Obama by almost 9 points, at least according to yahoo.
So will Obama go through with is planned spending in WV since money is no object and the vast majority of advertising here will bleed into other states or does he write us rednecks off?
I'm sure though, if McCain does win, it will be ONLY because Betty Irlands machines stole the election from Obama.

Well come on Aaron, the machines will only be a part of it.
You know there will be a lot more going on than that.

Such as what Sherm? We're a bunch of backwoods racist that won't vote for a black man?
Do you suppose that, as proven by the last two elections, those with your political leanings are in the minority?
