Re: Military wants McCain as President
But Sherm had assured me that the military was overwhelmingly Democrat! Maybe this new guy Sod can clear things up for me.

Well Craig I keep trying to tell them this claim that the military are all hard core republicans is a myth.
But they just deny it and say "everyone knows" the military is all republicans.
Well the military I know are mostly Democrat.
Just like they tried to hijack Jesus, they try to hijack Old Glory as well.

Randall,
Apparently sod is into refuting that Sherm fellow. See his comments on how half of the Republicans going to Palin rallies are so poor that they are receiving EITC payments.

Isn't it bad enough to hijack Jesus? Now you've gotta go and hijack Glory too?
Sorry, couldn't help myself!

If a feller wanted to hijack the Scriptures, he'd probably quote something like Ecclesiastes 10:2 "A wise man's heart inclines him to the right, but a fool's heart to the left." My wife and I read that the other morning and the laughing that followed proved a fine way to start the day.

Well we all know I am. Poor Mike isn't though. He's just spent too much time chatting with this heretic. I fear I've corrupted him a bit.

McCain sacrifices his legacy on Rovian tactics:

Well there are a whole lot more enlisted personnel than officers.
Officers and brown nosers are more likely to be republican.
But not the ones who do the heavy lifting.
Just like the civilian world actually...

Oh not at all. There is nothing unscriptural about a good laugh.
I think we are too quick to confuse irreverence with blasphemy.

Re: Military wants McCain as President
My wife and I read through books of the Bible each morning over coffee. It's a great way for us to start our day.
One of us reads it aloud while the other tries to eat breakfast or juggle our killer llamas, er, children.
Sometimes whoever of us reads it will have fun with the other one. This is what Ecclesiastes 7:26 says:
"And I find something more bitter than death: the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and whose hands are fetters. He who pleases God escapes her, but the sinner is taken by her."
This is how I chose to read it, to see if my wife was paying attention.
"And I find something more bitter than death: the woman."
The hiding my darling wife gave me was well worth it.

No one is disputing that some military members will give money to and support Obama. According to the POLL I posted, that number is somewhere around 24% of the enlisted you mentioned, meaning McCain routs Obama in the enlisted military vote by a 3 to 1 margin.
That's not suprising though as the military generally supports Republican candidates for President by at least 20% every election, which has been proven time and time and time again.

From your story Sherman.
Deployed Troops Give Four Times More Money To Obama
People in all branches of the service are getting tired of repeated deployments. "I think more of them will vote for Obama than McCain," said Jennings. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, deployed troops are putting their money where their mouth is: they've given four times as much money to Obama as McCain.
One of the basis they use in this story as proof that the military actually prefer Obama is the amount of money donated to each candidate. But what they are actually using are distorted numbers as they don't back up with any facts. They only say that deployed troops give more.
Open Secrets tells a different story though.
Military Donors Don't Stay the Course
Published by Lindsay Renick Mayer on October 17, 2008 11:40 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)
Some of the most interesting dollars to follow since the start of this election cycle have been those given by donors in the military, who have preferred anti-war candidate Barack Obama over hawkish John McCain from the start. But a surge of funds to McCain, a Vietnam War prisoner, in the final months that he was able to accept private contributions, moved him into the lead. By the end of August, McCain had collected $461,350 from military donors, compared to Obama's $450,950.
So not only is McCain preferred by the military by a nearly 3 to 1 margin, he's now received more in campaign contributions from the military as well.
Given the state of this election and how the candidated poll in the civilian world vs the military, if this isn't proof enough that the military does in fact lean to the right then I don't know what would be.

Re: Military wants McCain as President
I know he was in the lead at one time, long before Obama got any money at all.
The fact that Paul led for a while in money received nor that Obama has some support chanes the fact that the military traditionally votes consertative/republican.

Re: Military wants McCain as President
He had far more contributions from the military during the primary. I'd be very surprised if he hasn't been surpassed since then.

No, that's why I'm confident he's been surpassed by McCain, and believe it's likely he's been surpassed by Obama too.
