Dems making push for Anne Barth
http://wvgazette.com/News/200810250189
Sensing a Democrat breeze blowing across America, two former Democrat Governors are barnstorming through the Eastern Panhandle fpr Anne Barth in the closing days of the campaign.
With the race breaking rapidly toward the Dems, look for desperate campaign tactics from the republicans.
However judging from the backlash when McCain adopted those tactics, it will not avail them in wv either.
My prediction is if Obama can carry the district he will carry Barth in with him.
That is the direction things are moving right now, but there are several days left so we will see.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
For what's worth, I predicted on another thread that this election would be given to Barth so I'll be pleasantly suprised if SMC wins.
But for the record, the candidate running the most negative ads is Barth but I understand that Barth can't run on her record. She doesn't have one.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
Well I saw where you predicted Barth.
I hope you are right, but I dont think she will win unless Obama does.
The following link indicates the national campaign might actually drop some money in here. We will see.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
I've heard Obama is going to spend $5 million in WV alone during the last week.
Say what you like Sherm, he's buying this election. And I still have no doubt he'll buy a seat for Barth as well.

He lost by 41 points in what he considers a backwater, redneck racist state Sherm and if you think he views us any differently, I've got some nice beach front property in Topeka I'll sell you cheap.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
I just left the eastern panhandle. I saw 2 Barth signs. TWO. I didn't count how many Capito signs, but there were many. MANY!!!!
I believe Capito will win this race, that it won't even be close.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
Well we get mailings from Capito out the wazoo
We got four from her yesterday.
Most days at least one or two.
I dont watch much tv, but every time I do it is a constant barrage of Capito attack ads.
I saw in the paper that Capito has been outspending Barth 3-1.
So clearly Barth is not "buying" the election.
If Capito loses, it will be that voters just are so upset with republicans in general.
btw one of the Capito mailings was from right-to-life.
Has she changed her position on abortion?

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
West Virginians for Life PAC has endorsed Congresswoman Capito for re-election. They commended her for "her support of legislation to ban partial birth abortion, to stop tax funding of abortion and to provide for parental involvement before a minor can have an abortion.

Neither happened. As Charlie Gibson said last night, the once democratic state of West Virginia is now a solid Republican stronghold.
Democrat Barack Obama won the election, but McCain took the Mountain State by double digits. With 70 percent of precincts reporting late Tuesday, McCain led about 55 percent to 45 percent.

I met with Capito's staff when I lived in WVA and found them delightful and accessible. My group was hoping to speak with Capito herself and she apologized from the airport by phone that she was not there.
I have to say I like her a lot more than I expected. I voted for her back in 2000 and then she took a prochoice vote while Mollohan and Rahall took the prolife position (and then the Gazette wrote a piece on how "proud" they were of Capito and ashamed of Nick Joe and Alan). Well I wrote her a scathing letter telling her of how I had regretted my support of her and, while she never apologized or said she regretted her decision, actually wrote me back (or a staff member did in her name).
So I must say that WV-2 (I think it's Dist. 2) is well served by her, and I like Rahall and Mollohan as well.
On the minus side, you have Jay Rockefeller. Can't the Repubs do any better than Wolfe? Good heavens!

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
Well Aaron earlier on I said whoever raised the most money would win.
And then toward the end I began to think Barth might win if Obama carried the state.
So I was not surprised since Capito outspent her by a wide margin and Obama lost by about the same margin or worse than Barth.
I think Capito made a wise political decision by flip-flopping on Abortion.
I was not aware she hade done so until well into this campaign season.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
I think before we get Republican Senators, they have to shed the sheep’s closing. Joe Manchin is the perfect example. He's more Republican then democrat and would be a fine successor to Jay or Bob.
Here's what I don't get though and maybe someone can help me out.
Jay Wolfe has run against Rockefeller twice. John Raese has run against Byrd twice. I would think Raese would stand a better chance against Rockefeller then Byrd.
Is there some rule that says a challenger can only run against either the junior or senior senator?

That is not what won here the seat. She won by the same margin yesterday as she did in 06 against Callahan before her "flip flop".
It's her seat to lose and the only way democrats will get it back is if she chooses to run for an open Senate seat or for Governor.

I didn't vote for him. I told him I wouldn't vote for him. I wrote in the Constitution Party's official write-in candidate, Rick Bartlett. I did quite a bit of writing in yesterday. One thing I did not do, was vote for any Democrat. I didn't find any worth voting for.

You didn't vote for Brady Paxton? He's a good guy that's worked hard for his district.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
No, I did not. I voted for McCormick & Scott. There are far too many liberals in our Legislature for me to be voting for one.
Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
I don't know that Brady's a liberal. I'm pretty sure he's a WV democrat in sheeps cloting.

Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
I'm sure Paxton is a nice guy. He looks too much like Santa Claus not to be a nice guy. My concern was he would try to behave like Santa too.
Re: Dems making push for Anne Barth
Only with Poca High School. He got our track $40,000 and our baseball team $10,000 for upgrades. He's big on getting money for the Putnam County schools and support organizations.
Other then that, I'm not sure of all of his core values. I do know he's been a retired teacher for quite a few years.
So yeah, he's likely pretty liberal.

I really like Brady Paxton, and I remember him as a very sane individual who helped us stop a very bad bill from becoming law back in 2000.
