Well, what do you think about the sentence?

I think that he got what he deserved.

I agree. Do you believe the judge, however, when she said the murder acquittal had nothing to do with it? On that matter I am less certain.

Didn't she give his co-defendent more time? Armed robbery, kidnapping..those are very serious offences. I'm glad that animal is in a cage. It's where he belongs.

That is what I meant about doing an end run around the system Mike. And it happens more than you might think.
If they cant convict of one thing they convict of something else.
I suppose they think that's right, but to me it shows lack of faith in the system.
Being unable to accept a verdict contrary to what they "know" to be right.

What's the matter, Sherm? You don't think that people who commit kidnapping and armed robbery belong in cages?
Re: O.J. is gonna' be really old...
Well Steph I think you know why this case was prosecuted.
I think OJ was guilty of the original charges too.
And it was a travesty the jury refused to convict.
But when people do an end run around the system that bothers me too.

Nevada takes a very dim view of people bring guns into casinos, and staging armed robberies. You may note that the judge specifically mentioned something to the effect of, "What if the gun had gone off and a tourist got shot?!?!?" O.J. will be lucky if the parole board lets him out after serving less than half of the 33-year max.
Re: O.J. is gonna' be really old...
I don't disagree that the sentence was warranted. Steph's point that the co-defendant got even more dispels my concerns about the end run that Sherm is worried about, although I have to wonder if the co-defendant didn't fair worse than he would have had it not been in concert with OJ.
Of course, I don't reckon it's good policy to piss off the tourists in Nevada, and perhaps the judge really does know who "butters her bread."

C.J. Stewart, O.J.'s co-knucklehead, got slightly less time (7.5 to 27 years vs. 9 to 33 years). Then again he wasn't the "mastermind" (a very loose term in this case).

Look, the system is in shambles. Our judicial system is a mess, in large part thanks to this assinine "war on drugs".
I don't see an "end run" around anything here, though. OJ Simpson committed the crimes he was convicted of. He had plenty of motive. There was eye witness testimony. There was the matter of those pesky little tapes.
OJ Simpson is an animal. There isn't a doubt in my mind he murdered the mother of his two youngest children, and that poor innocent bystander Ron Goldman. He got away with it. I'm sure he was convinced that if he could get away with murdering the mother of his children, a little armed robbery and unlawful detention would be a walk in Coonskin Park.
Why not ask the victims of his most recent crimes if they think this was an end run around the legal system. Why not ask the proprietors of the hotel where he committed these acts if they think there was an end run around the system.
He's where he belongs, in a Nevada prison for crimes he committed in the state of Nevada. I hope he rots there.
Re: O.J. is gonna' be really old...
I wonder if OJ is going to switch positions from running back to wide receiver.
Yes I know how juvenile that joke is. It still makes me laugh.
