I firmly believe that laws and institutions are not set in stone, but should be continuously interpreted and reformed to keep pace with the times," Starcher wrote. "I have dedicated my career to tailoring the law to an every-growing, every-advancing society. And I hope that the words of Jefferson will continue to inspire other lawyers and judges who seek justice for their clients. - Larry Starcher

Jefferson did advocate re-writing the Constitution every generation so that the "dead do not rule the living". Since the Constitution has not been re-written it is indeed set in stone and has merely to be read. What a nightmare! Why, a coal baron, for instance, could purchase a Supreme Court seat for a nobody who could then come in and re-interpret the Constitution to mean whatever he believes it needs to say. Why would anybody advocate for that when at the very least we have an established Constitution upon which to rely? Otherwise, the Constitution is but the whim of a majority of the Court at any given time.
