Citizenship & Responsibility
.....citizenship is not an entitlement program. It begins with responsibilities.
That was Rahm Emmanuel being interviewed by Kitty Pilgrim in August of 2006 on the Lou Dobbs Show.
I'm having a very difficult time understanding how that jives with offering amnesty and a path to citizenship to people who violate US law, threaten our security, and endanger our sovereignty. That's what Harry Reid is pushing, again.
So what does this mean? Does it mean that as US citizens we have a responsibility to provide for every person who crosses our border even if they do so illegally? Why are they entitled to a free pass and why are we required to fund it?

How do we anticipate they will vote?

Re: Citizenship & Responsibility
Well it looks like we have three options.
1. round up 12 million or so illegal immigrants and their families and send them back.
2. maintain the status quo of living in the shadows and willing to work for sub-standard wages and conditions.
3. some sort of path to citizenship.
Those are the only paths I can see.

What it means is that politicans speak out of both sides of their mouths. They will say whatever it takes to get them elected and keep them in office. Since the media is the joke it is, politicans can say what they want and do as they please and never ever be held accountible.
In answer to your question what are illegals entitled a free pass? They are entitled to a free pass because they will vote for the hypocrits.

Re: Citizenship & Responsibility
I see only one option that is good for Americans. Send them home and secure our ports and borders. Your option two, ignores criminal behavior and option three rewards it.
Re: Citizenship & Responsibility
Well thanks for an answer Steph.
Looks like you got more nads than the rest...
I would vote for #3

Re: Citizenship & Responsibility
I would vote for a path to citizenship if it started with the illegal going back to their home country and starting the process from there.
I also think we need to address the 14th amendment which grants automatic citizenship to all persons born on US soil.
As it is now, when an illegal comes into the country and has a baby, that child gets automatic citizenship and as such can request citizenship for parents and siblings upon turning 21. Additionally, parents are often granted green cards to stay in country with their legally born child.
That child’s parents should be forced to show they were in country legally before automatic citizenship is granted.

Re: Citizenship & Responsibility
One at a time if that's what it takes.
Hell, if we would just eliminate entitlement programs, stop giving away free health care and get them out of our schools, I'd say at least half would leave on their own.
But to say we can’t round them up so we have to give them citizenship isn't the answer. Hell, that’s what they want because that’s what we’ve always done.
Don’t you know that if you continue to do the same thing over and over, you’re going to get the same results?
It didn’t work before so what makes you think it’s going to work now?

Re: Citizenship & Responsibility
Step one is to stop providing them with health care, food stamps, child care, educations, free school meals, etc.
Step two is to actually deport the ones we catch. Don't give them a future court date and send them out on the streets to disappear.
Require employers verify social security numbers, and prosecute those who don't and provide severe penalties for employing illegal aliens.
You like amnesty? How about an amnesty program for employers? Provide them an amnesty week to turn over their undocumented workers.

Sure, tell them there are free burritos down at the civic center. Bring in buses and take them back in droves.
