Gore/Obama
Well I have started seeing these Gore/Obama 08 bumper stickers popping up in various states and assumed it was an upstart movement.
But I just did a google and I guess the idea has been out there for awhile.
I just had not heard of it.

Re: Gore/Obama
First, it would be Obama/Gore, not the other way around. The Presidential candidate goes first, the VP goes second.
Second, do you really think Al Gore is going to go back to a job that will basically take him out of the spotlight and everyday media? Somehow I don't think that will happen.
Personally, I think Obama should look at Joe Biden or someone like him. Maybe he already has and that senior senator with loads of experience has already endorsed Sen. Obama???

Re: Gore/Obama
Well no I think the idea is Gore on top.
If there is a deadlocked convention, it would be likely that a compromise candidate would emerge.
I suspect if it deadlocks that Obama would not accept Clinton and vice versa.
If Edwards would nominate Gore, the delegates might start peeling away for him.

Re: Gore/Obama
LOL...Yeah, right.
Do you honestly think for a second that Barak Obama is going to take a back seat to anyone? This guy has been running for President for a very long time Sherm. It's why he gave a speech about the follies of the Iraq war when he was in the Il. State legislature when no one cared what he thougth.
As for Gore, he knew he wasn't electable and his ego couldn't take the rejection. That's why he didn't run to begin with.

"GORE/OBAMA" sounds like a horror/slasher movie-fest somewhere.

Re: Gore/Obama
Why would you say he was unelectable when he got several million more votes than your guy Bush.?

My history tells me George Herbert Walker Bush won the election in 2000 for President of the United States of America.

I haven't seen it. If I could find a free copy I would probably check it out but I won't pay to rent it. I guess I missed it on discovery or I would have watched it there.

I will believe that GW is real WHEN AL Gore uses less than 20X the average energy in his own house and starts to flying coach. SO, don't bother seeing the movie--even Gore doesn't believe in it.

I generally like to do my own thinking based on what I read and don't rely on what someone else to make my decision. I also don't let that cloud my judgement. Something is going on and I do believe GW is real enough. I'm just not convinced that man is the entire cause or that we can or can't change it.
I think to stick your head in the sand and say earth isn't getting warmer because Al Gore's a hypocrite is at best foolish.

Re: Gore/Obama
I googled Gore/Obama for grins and giggles Sherm. The first sight that came up was dated spring to early fall, last year.
Obama, who will go to the convention with thousands of delegates is not going to take a backseat to Al Gore.

I sure hope you're right, Aaron. The thought of Gore/Obama or Billary/anybody is enough to make be beg you to take a gun and just shoot me in the back of the head.

I'm inclined to agree about the big egos taking a second billing. But whatever possessed Edwards to do it?

That's a good question OC considering I think he ran for Senator in 98 for the sole purpose of running for President at some point. Maybe he thought it would get him elected or at least name recognition for a future run, which it did.
I have a feeling that if McCain or Romney wins in November, he'll set up camp in Iowa along about January.

Gore did not file for president in West Virginia- and the filing period is over.
I have been told by an elections division staff attorney at the office of the WV Secretary of State that unless one files to run in the WV presidential primary, that such person, even if nominated by one of the two major parties, is not eligible to be on the WV general election ballot.
I will try to research that for myself. But it's what he told me back in December. Does anyone here have any knowledge to either confirm or dispute this?

Re: Gore/Obama
No, except I was reading this morning that McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy ruined one another in '68 and the Convention was pleased to nominate Humphrey who had not run in a single primary.
Incidentally (and I may have mentioned this before), Humphrey was an immense man of maybe 6'6" or so. He only looked tiny.

Re: Gore/Obama
There was that whole Bobby Kennedy being dead thing at the convention that probably has a little to do with him not being nominated.

There was that. I don't think he enjoyed a lot of electoral success even prior to that. I could be wrong.

Didn't he just win CA on the day of his death?
It was a little before my time. The History Channel makes out like he had it sowed up.

Re: Gore/Obama
Interesting. In 68 not all states held primaries. Some states decided who they were going to support. That's one of the reasons Humphry didn't run in any primaries.

Your history would be wrong. GHWB won in '88; losing to Clinton in 1992. GWB won in 2000.

You are correct. Either way, Al Gore LOST.
All he had to do was carry his home state...
