Arctic Sea Ice Underestimated for Weeks Due to Faulty Sensor
Feb. 20, 2009 (Bloomberg) -- A glitch in satellite sensors caused scientists to underestimate the extent of Arctic sea ice by 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles), a California- size area, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said.
The error, due to a problem called “sensor drift,” began in early January and caused a slowly growing underestimation of sea ice extent until mid-February. That’s when “puzzled readers” alerted the NSIDC about data showing ice-covered areas as stretches of open ocean, the Boulder, Colorado-based group said on its Web site.

Yes. They lost one whole month of data.
That lost month will invalidate the dozens of years of data that precede it. It will also invalidate other global temperature data.
That's how science is done, yep.
Glad we have settled the whole "climate change" thing.

Well now, I can sure see why you are trying to fend off any criticism of their devious dishonest actions.
They were not the ones to report their bad sensor data, ...... they have not admitted their data was in error ...... and they had not corrected that erronously bad data on their publically viewable report after being outed.
Given their current actions, ...... how many time during the past 30 years have they reported bad data ...... when no one was looking over their sholders keeping them honest?

I wasn't defending anyone, Sammy, least of all the NSIDC. Did you see me make any statement to that effect?
I merely made a point that, contrary to what you would have us think, that one bit of bad data doesn't disprove anything, particularly since so much of the data to suggest arctic ice is on the retreat comes from distinct and independent sources.
Make strawmen for someone else - we're full up, here.
