AIG Bonuses

Look, my problem with the AIG bonuses is specifically because they are for executives. These aren't bonuses for the worker-bees, these bonuses, at least as I understand the situation, are for the fat-cats who ran the ship aground to begin with.

In the end this is just further proof the government should not be using taxpayer money to bail out private businesses that are failing because of greed, incompetence, lack of innovation or changes in the market. It's bad for taxpayers. It's bad for America. It's just plain bad.

You know you all can argue about this and union contracts until the cows come home, but does change the fact, what the House of Representatives did yesterday, was in direct violation of the US Constitution.

Article 1 Section 9

No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

Article 1 Section 10

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

This is what ex post facto means -

1.	from or by subsequent action; subsequently; retrospectively; retroactively.

2.	having retroactive force; made or done subsequently: an ex post facto law.

You know you all can argue about this and union contracts until the cows come home, but does change the fact, what the House of Representatives did yesterday, was in direct violation of the US Constitution.

I can say with some confidence that the Constitution is a Living Document. I will be proposing nominees to the Court who know what it is like to be a poor black girl or a union organizer who has been savaged by the company. A union organizer who...

may have been ostracized at the country club. One who may have been denied his proper ranking among the hoi polloi. It is my job to see that union organizers, like community organizers, are given their proper due.

Therefore, I will sign card check legislation to level the playing field, a field, upon which, I have never trod.
