The first appearance by a sitting president on "The Tonight Show" may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

He then belched and scratched his groin before passing gas..

I think his administration would be better staffed by the high bowlers of the special olympics, all of whom have beaten 139. I know, I've bowled against them.

It's pretty cool how they used to do it. Everyone would bowl a round and then based on their score were divided into groups of four. Everyone, people with disabilities as well as friends and family, all bowled together, and I for one was crushed by someone with mild mental retardation.

I get the sense that they would do a better job running the country as well. I wonder what they'd think about abortions based on downs syndrome?

Although let me hasten to say that I don't think this should be a black mark against his presidency. His issues and the successes and failures will speak for themselves. The feller said something unfortunate but forgiveness should be quick. We are all flawed individuals who have said something stupid in the past. The difference is that we don't have cameras recording us all the time.

I would like the same charity be granted to each and every one of the politicians in the spotlight, and I am quite sure that the Obama and Biden gaffes would be more devastating if they were Republicans. The Republican in Virginia said "macacca" and the media didn't let it go. I wonder if there could be a study of "special olympics" coverage versus "macacca" coverage.

I think I have some expertise in my field of knowledge. I meant to show "eugenics". If Obama read "olympics" that was probably my fault.

So if Britt Hume and the "Beltway Boys" suggest that the Big Guy is no good without his teleprompter, wouldn't that indicate that maybe his teleprompter should get credit for his superior level of articulation (if not his guile)? I mean, I'm just asking...
