Obama’s Stimulus - working to stimulate ire of non-working

WASHINGTON - Years of state and federal neglect have hobbled the nation’s unemployment system just as a brutal recession has doubled the number of jobless Americans seeking aid.

Sixteen states, with exhausted funds, are now paying benefits with borrowed cash, and their number could double by the year’s end.

Call centers and Web sites have been overwhelmed, leaving frustrated workers sometimes fighting for days to file an application.

West Virginia has an online process that once you file the initial claim, you never have to talk to anyone else again. They don't even verify that you've been looking for a job anymore and so long as you claim that you're looking for at least 2 per week, they'll credit your debit card they issued you with your money so you don't even have to wait on a check.

RI has a phone system for initially filing. After that everything is handled by mail, to my knowledge. My son was unemployed for 3 weeks and never got through to file. I tell him he should continue to try.
