Millions and millions and millions of people are.

They religiously insure the bloodlines of their domesticated animals and plants via names such as Throughbreds, Registered, Purebred, etc., etc. to insure the best qualities are preserved in the offsprings of said.

See, this is one of those situations that could potentially turn into a good conversatin I was talking about but the frequency of your visits will prevent that TC. For the record though, staying within ones race and/or nationality is not inbreeding.

How much longer to you suppose "Israel is the only viable democracy in the Middle East" will hold water with average Americans?

I'm not sure if you're talking to me Stephanie but I think the government can snowball the averavge American about Israel for a very long time. We likely won't see a change in our lifetime because the average American hears how Israel is God's chosen people, how God will protect Israel and how God will help those who help Israel and will punish Israel's enemies. And the average American has no idea that we're funding both sides of this war.

I wasn't really talking to anyone in particular. More like venting.

I don't think this ethnic but strictly religious. It makes no sense to you are irreligious. I am not Jewish obviously, but I do not see anything particularly bigoted in this. They want to encourage people of the Jewish faith to marry others of the Jewish faith. Christians and Muslims (and many Buddhists) believe the same thing. Do you want your daughters marrying born again Christians?

Now the whole "report family abroad" thing is definitely an example of assholery, but the religiously based goal of encouraging intranecine marriages makes sense to me.

I see a danger in that this could discourage other marriages as well such as interracial relationships. Consider that there is a whole sect of Ethiopian Jews. A very interesting group I might add. Will they limit this policy to just discouraging marriages between religions? Or will the policy broaden as 'purists' become involved? That would disturb me. So do you open the door?

My parents had the good taste not to interfere in my relationships. I'd like to try and be the same. Besides, easier to drink the ocean with a spoon than chance a lover's mind.

BTW, my best friend is a born again christian and one of the finest people I know. I'm not prejudiced against all christians, just the ones that want to force everyone to "the light", by hook or crook.

Why do you suppose that religious restrictions will lead to ethnic ones? Ethnic divisions reach beyond merely the Ethiopian Jews, and if they were looking for ethnic purity, I would expect to see that by now.

I HAVE seen appalling racism in the Jewish community in the united states. In one case up in Ohio, the Russian jews wouldn't let the Polish Jews share the synagogue. No kidding.

But I do not see that in this present practice. I never like the idea of "report friends and family abroad" but encouraging intra-religious marriage makes sense as a religious goal, provided it does not become a legal one.

Because I am trying to raise my daughter to have an open mind and, for the most part, religions close minds. I would feel as though it might undo my hard work.

BTW, you don't need to chance the good reverend's name for your example. "Terry" has become a unisex name over the past decades.
