Complying with McCain-Feingold
This is pretty rich. McCain had applied for permission to back out of government financing when it became more clear that the democrat nominee presumptive was going to ignore his pledge to stick with government financing.

This is funny because when Obama and McCain made the deal one year ago, the New York Times called it a deal:
From March 2, 2007
Now that Obama is backing out of it, it wasn't a "deal" at all:
From Feb. 20, 2008
Now that he's flush with cash, Obama doesn't want anything to do with public financing. In the year that has just past, the New York Times has gone from calling it an "accord" and a "truce" to calling it "indications...that he would agree".

This is funny because when Obama and McCain made the deal one year ago, the New York Times called it a deal:
From March 2, 2007
Senator John McCain joined Senator Barack Obama on Thursday in promising to accept a novel fund-raising truce if each man wins his party's presidential nomination...Mr. McCain said that he would take up Mr. Obama on a proposal for an accord between the two major party nominees to rely just on public financing for the general election.
Now that Obama is backing out of it, it wasn't a "deal" at all:
From Feb. 20, 2008
Mr. Obama's startling success, however, has also now put him on the spot, tempting him to back away from indications he gave last year that he would agree to accept public financing in the general election if the Republican nominee did the same.
Now that he's flush with cash, Obama doesn't want anything to do with public financing. In the year that has just past, the New York Times has gone from calling it an "accord" and a "truce" to calling it "indications...that he would agree".
