Predictions?
Anyone willing to predict the 2008 election? I'm going with McCain 49, Obama 46, with a strong third party showing. Once Obama actually has to defend massive social welfare expansion and surrender in Iraq rather than just rhetorically best Madame Clinton, I think he's done for.

Re: Predictions?
Respectfully, Sheik, I believe that the percentages are right--the winner is wrong.

Re: Predictions?
I think the spread could be a percentage point or two wider but I agree with Mike. Middle America will turn out in droves to defeat Obama.

Re: Predictions?
I agree with that and I think further that Obama will serve one term which will get increasingly bumpy.

Hell yeah, it will be bumpy. I'm not sure that man knows what he's getting himself into. Also, I'm not sure if I've said this before here or not...I will never understand why ANYBODY would want that job. I'd rather be a NYC sanitation worker than president.
Re: Predictions?
I have to say I have wondered that myself. Given that the field is generally made up of the wealthy and powerful, why would they want to screw with that?
I guess it's a matter of psychology. If I had a million dollars (I'd buy you a fur coat, but not a real fur coat that's cruel) I doubt I'd go applying for a job in which the odds of death in office are, what 1 in 5 or so?
But I guess if I were of the psychology of a politician I'd want more power despite the obvious drawbacks. I guess I'm actually happier being me.

Re: Predictions?
Ego. It's why they think they can carry on an extramarital affair. It blinds them to the numbers. They are susceptible to flattery. Bill Clinton was the fat kid in the band. Once he'd attained a fairly high (Ark. Atty Gen.) elective office he thought that women loved him because of something inherent in him, for pete's sake.
It is why Lincoln was able to play Salmon P. Chase like a nickelodeon - Chase actually believed that "substantial men of great weight and earnestness" preferred him to Lincoln. As Secretary of the Treasury, Chase printed dollar bills with his own likeness on them. He openly yearned for it. Yet when Lincoln called him on it, he denied everything. It made him look foolish.
It explains a great deal throughout our history. A small measure of approbation brings it out in all men.

Re: Predictions?
You are correct, of course. I've just always believed that a little ego goes a very long way.
Re: Predictions?
It is a mystical and mystifying thing. What makes any candidate think that he has a chance? Reading the polls? Gauging public perception? Who knows? At any given moment the United States Senate is populated with 100 competing egos. Just as the WV State Senate has thirty four. Each one of them thinks himself uniquely qualified and the choice of the people. When Huckabee says he majored in "miracles", he believes he is going to win the nomination despite the fact it is numerically impossible. There is no accounting for it, it just is. And yet, we always elect one or the other... Somebody's got to win, it might as well be me.

It depends on what happens between now and May 13 with next Tuesday defining the nomination. Hillary HAS to win Texas and Ohio for delegates sake and probably needs Vermont and Rhode Island for momentium's sake. If she does that and can take states like PA and NC then WV will still be relevant and I think she does very well.
If the recent trend continues, she may still be campaigning but she won't have a shot at the nomination. Everyone knows a democrat changes their mind more then the weather changes in Chicago.

What difference does it make who the world wins. Any of the four remaining can win and you'll have exactly the same thing, a socialistic, leftist, twit.
