Re: What About Calderon?
I don't know what to call you or Ziggy. I have no interest in labeling you. I will tell you this, you don't place the value on individual liberty that I do.
Cato is entitled to do with his property as he chooses. It belongs to him.

Terry and Ziggy are like a number of people I know. They talk about freedom, they say they love liberty, but when it comes down to the rubber meeting the road, their idea of freedom means doing things their way and living as they feel one should live. It certainly doesn't mean to live and let live as a person desires.
I have little clue what makes these people tick, I really don't. I have got in some very heated discussions about liberty and what it means. Many seem to think that their liberty is their liberty however, everyone else's is negioable. That's really a warped view in my opinion. It seems to me that if you are going to talk the talk of freedom then just maybe you ought to walk the walk. Ziggy and Terry along with many I know talk the talk, but fail to walk the walk.
I've come to the conclusion, it isn't worth the stomach acid to argue anymore. There are those, like me who just want to live their life in peace. We are getting fed up with all the intrusions into our liberty, having what we've worked for taken, and then being scolded and chastized because we choose to live free. A time is coming when people are going to say enough and do something about it.

Says you. Willy wants his liberty to trump the rights of others. Since you are OK with that, I assume you want the same for yourself.

You might feel differently if it is next to yours and he sets a gunpowder plant on it.

Willy, considering you use your business to discriminate against gays and unwed moms, perhaps you had better stop ignoring the beam in your own eye.
Call me a fascist if you like. Threaten revolt. We will teach you to play well with others, whether you like it or not.
You think it is OK to discriminate against gays. One hundred years ago, it was OK to discriminate against blacks and women.
Times change. Better learn to change with them.

Willy is projecting. He doesn't give a fuck about the freedom of a gay person or an atheist, for instance.
Willy, how am I freedom hating? Please cite specific examples.

This really irks me.
If I remember correctly, Steph. You support censorship of media on radio and TV frequencies that belong to everybody, and all "for the sake of the children". I'll bet Willy does, also.
You are stifling MY individual liberties. It is not "live and let live" to tell individuals or businesses that certain language or art is ILLEGAL, based upon some arbitrary sense of morality or "properness".
You and Willy are just as guilty as what you accuse me of.
Physicians, heal thyselves.

Re: What About Calderon?
Be irked all you like.
Willy can't do anything with his property that will lower the value of the property around him because if he did so, he would be infringing upon his neighbors. He certainly can't do anything that poses a danger to his neighbors.
As far as censorship goes, you're going to have to forgive my conservative nature but I don't want to run the risk of Loyd flipping on the television and finding Debbie Does Dallas as he surfing through the channels at 4:00 in the afternoon. I don't want to have to worry about hitting the seek button on the radio in my car and hearing Howard Stern spewing obscenities on my way to Foodland with Loyd and his friends in the car. For that matter, when I'm carpooling up to Morgantown in July, I don't want to run the risk of hearing that with other adults. I cannot change the fact it is the FCC that issues licenses. It should be for individual states to decide what is broadcast on their airwaves. I cannot "fix" that.
I am conservative. I never claimed to be libertarian. I am a Republican. I don't deny my conservatism, nor am I ashamed of it. I'm still not interested in labeling you or Ziggy or Cato or any other private citizen.

You bet wrong bozo. I don't believe or support censorship. That is what they made the OFF button and channel changer for. I'll be responsible for what comes into my home, not the government, thank you very much.
As I have said time and again and niether you or Ziggy seem smart enough to comprehend, I do believe in live and let live. The only thing government needs to do is provide protection from foreign threats, protection from the criminals, and provide a court system to hear criminal cases and settle disputes based on objective law. That's it. As far as the government being used to push your morality and views on me or mine on you, I find that to be nothing more than good ol' tyranny.

"Their" airwaves? So do states own the airwaves? State governments?
And airwaves, once broadcast, do travel across state lines, you know.

Finding "objective law" is like finding objective morality- it depends on who is defining "objective".

Re: What About Calderon?
I'm with Cato on the censorship issue for a litany of reasons. One, like I think Zig mentioned, airwaves cross state lines, so it's not something the states can really regulate. Two, I do not trust the federal government to censor anything--if we do, I think we'll find Debbie Does Dallas does just fine while the Crystal Cathedral is banned:)
But really, the issue is the "off" button and my own responsibility as a parent. If CBS wants to run something I find offensive (and they do), I will see to it that I do not have a television which picks up CBS.
Yes, I've gone to lengths that are downright Amish. No cable, no satellite, and we live too far from Chicago (and at the bottom of a bluff) to get broadcasts but if I don't want to watch filth, that is what I am to do. I miss watching the Cubs lose, but that is what the corner bar is for.
I don't care for the Marilyn Mansons and Howard Sterns of the world, but I care EVEN LESS to deny them their rights to free speech, just as I hold dear to my own rights to express my Christian beliefs freely.
