Senator Webb(D-VA) calls for ending diversity
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Sen. Jim Webb called for ending government-run diversity programs in a newspaper column Friday, saying they have disadvantaged struggling whites and hurt the cause of racial harmony. Webb wrote an op-ed column in Friday's Wall Street Journal that said a "plethora of government-enforced diversity policies have marginalized many white workers. The time has come to cease the false arguments and allow every American the benefit of a fair chance at the future."
Webb's press secretary, Jessica Smith, said Friday that the senator felt the column speaks for itself and that he would not comment further.
That crazy macaca! What is he thinking?

A Democrat Senator you could luv.
Federal diversity programs now primarily benefit new immigrants over whites and even black Americans, their original beneficiaries, wrote Webb, D-Va.
"In an odd historical twist that all Americans see but few can understand, many programs allow recently arrived immigrants to move ahead of similarly situated whites whose families have been in the country for generations," he wrote.

For you that is unpossible. I thought they were all "POS"?
I'm not keen on "diversity" programs or "political correctness".
That being said, it takes a long time to overcome systematic racism.
Example: after WWII, white veterans got VA-back mortgages to buy houses. Black veterans didn't. Inner-city neighborhoods where they lived were redlined, and neighborhoods in the suburbs were segregated. Since the blacks continued to rent, they didn't accumulate the wealth that their white counterparts did. Now that WWII veterans are rapidly dwindling, the black vets aren't able to leave the wealth they accumulated through homeownership to the next generation, which could have been used to pay for college, purchase a new house, etc.
This is one reason why blacks are disproportionately represented among the poor.
Some say that affirmative action has served its time. I'm wishy-washy on that. I'd give it another generation until everyone that lived under Jim Crow is dead and gone.
Cue the "OMG, TerryRC is a fascist that hates freedom" remarks.

Terry,
Are you familiar with the DOJ-New Black Panther voter intimidation issue? It's been mentioned somewhere in this forum.

No.
If a group is found guilty of keeping voters from the polls or of threatening harm if someone votes a certain way, they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

You can read a bit about it on that blog and the video is posted there. Funny how the MSM ignores this story. I would post you links to news reports from Fox etc but I know how dismissive you are of Fox.

Re: Senator Webb(D-VA) calls for ending diversity
I watched the video and I saw no evidence of voter intimidation.
Perhaps you could point out the exact threat made in the video, which is our only actual evidence. I saw no one being denied access to the polling place.
I did see white people walking out of the polling place at the end of the video. They didn't look intimidated.
Of course, what was reported in the blog was different than what is in the video but that is uncorroborated.
Perhaps the MSM is ignoring this for a reason. I'm sure FOX isn't, but then again, they have royally f'ed up with video evidence lately (and I know they weren't alone on that).
If, and I say "if" those particular panthers were hired as security, I see no crime here as security people carry clubs all of the time as a tool of their job.

I thought you couldn't be discriminated against for your political stance?
So, what, exactly is the evidence that voters were turned away or threatened? At what point in the video did that happen?

OK so next election day Aryan Nation members can stand in front of polling places in predominantly white areas of Philly swinging a nightstick?
There's more to the story than that video, btw. Here's the man with the stick in another video.

Re: Senator Webb(D-VA) calls for ending diversity
Your FOX video showed a very racist man. I am reminded very much of white supremacy groups. I think they preach hate. They also have a right to say those ignorant things.
Your FOX video did not supply evidence of voter intimidation. Likely that scary nubian man did say those things (I'd like to see the whole video, though) and perhaps he did work security at a polling place as per your other video. That doesn't mean that he intimidated voters.
You and Aaron can say I'm biased, but I'm not. If there was interference with voters, it needs to be punished.
Where in either of those videos did that happen? You point it out and I will have your back.

Terry, it isn't a "Fox News" video. It's from a National Geographic special on the New Black Panthers. This POS is the NBP leader in the city of Brotherly Love.
I'm not going to dig up the entire story for you. You're a big boy and you can do that on your own if you're interested to know why I not only agree with Senator Webb.
The Bush Administration was going to sentencing. Holder gets appointed, steps in and drops the damn charges. You may think nothing's amiss, but it sure smells mighty rotten to me.
You didn't answer my question, btw. For the record, he wasn't there as security. He was just lying for the video camera.

I did answer your question, and I quote:

If they weren't security and municipal or state law forbids the carrying of a nightstick in public, then they should be arrested for that. I'm guessing that they didn't break any laws there since they weren't even charged on that.
I ask again, where in the evidence you supplied me is evidence of voters being harassed?
I'm not saying it it didn't happen. I'm saying that your videos didn't supply evidence of it. What did I miss?

Re: Senator Webb(D-VA) calls for ending diversity
Sworn testimony, and an understanding of voter intimidation laws.
Is it reasonable to think that a white person might be intimidated by a group of black men standing outside a polling place on election day in a predominantly black precinct on the day a black man is has a good chance of being elected US President for the first time if they are wearing military type garb and one is swinging a nightstick?
If in the course of the investigation, you discover that the people in question belong to a known racist organization, and the man with the nightstick has encouraged others to "kill crackers" and to "kill their babies" and curses at a black men walking down the street with white women (cracker whores), and you have testimony from at least one witness that a black GOP poll "watcher was threatened by the man in the video seen swinging a nightstick and lying about why he was in front of a polling place swinging that night stick, and that man, and others with him wearing similar clothing belonging to the same racist organization plead to the charges doesn't that sound like a good case for bringing forth charges of voter intimidation? The evidience was so good the NBP members plead to the charges. Can you think of any reasonable explantion for those charges to suddenly be dropped? The newly appointed black head of the DOJ seemed to because that's what he did.
I don't. Read about what happened.

Aaron: The sad part Terry is you actually believe what you are writing.
More tripe with no valid arguing points.
What is sad? That I didn't deny that the event happened but those videos don't appear to show any evidence of it?
The sad part is that there was NO actual evidence of voter intimidation in those two videos and you won't admit it.
Steph: Sworn testimony, and an understanding of voter intimidation laws.
Then why didn't you say so? Link to it. Even so, testimony without corroborating evidence is dubious. If I said you beat my son but had no eyewitness or physical evidence, would that be a smoking gun?
Like I said. You presented those videos like they were showing clear cut evidence of voter intimidation. I am merely asking you where in them the evidence is?

Re: Senator Webb(D-VA) calls for ending diversity
...and you have testimony from at least one witness that a black GOP poll watcher was threatened by the man...
Unless the poll watcher comes forward, the witnesses statement is pretty much hearsay.
The panther is a pig. That isn't a crime.
Give us one voter, just one single voter that said they were threatened or turned away at that spot. Just one and I say we hang those punks.
As I said. This very well could have happened. Where is the actual evidence of voter intimidation? Apparently someone didn't think there was enough.

The issue is not what I recognize. It is what evidence exists that allows them to be charged.
I'm willing to be objective. Where is the beef? Neither of those videos had it. Is there a statement from someone that was actually intimidated, or just hearsay statements.
Got anything or are you just going to keep on belittling me.

Just wanted to point out that this is another tripe statement/attack that actually makes no argument.
Instead of telling me how wrong or sad I am, why not provide the evidence that there was a crime committed? I'll look at it.

Were this a court of law, that standard might apply but as it's nothing more then a public forum where 7 people post frequently, I don't need to meet that standard.
Besides, Stephanie provided you with the statements and you're making excuses. Its part of your MO as when you've got nothing else to stand on, you DEMAND proof.
Don't worry though, you're not alone. That is a common tactic among those who attempt to excuse liberals and their policies.

I made no excuse.
Steph stated that a witness saw a poll watcher being intimidated. Without the poll watcher's statement, that is hearsay. If someone said you raped someone but couldn't provide a corroborating statement from the victim, I would give that witness the same amount of credence - none.
The videos provided no proof of voter intimidation, either. Where are the intimidated voters and their statements?
You two are going after me because, while I think it entirely possible the two might have been up to voter intimidation, I don't see evidence of it. Neither did law officials, apparently.
Because I withhold judgment based upon the evidence you have provided me, I'm the bad guy. How open minded of you. How fair of you!

Spoken like someone that actually has no real argument.
